Getting Worried

Hi
Anyone else travelling on 23rd September? I am getting really concerned now with all of these hurricanes and reports of people having to cancel their holidays. We are going over for my moms wedding, so its not just a holiday to us if it is cancelled. Hopefully they will all be over by the end of next week.

Anyone else really worried?

I am due to fly out on the 24th and I must admit I am worried as well - not so sure that hurricanes will keep hitting Florida but worried about all the damage caused to the poor residents of Florida and somewhat guilty that I am going over there to "enjoy myself".

We also depart on the 24th. From what I have read its the clean up that may hit us, not necessarily the flights. I hope for the FL residents that they can get as back to normal as possible as soon as possible.

Having just read some more info on the community board I feel more worried. Ivan could hit Orlando Monday/Tuesday. I cant start to imagine how the FL residents are feeling. The best wishes of my family & I go out to all those affected.

I know you do feel guilty about hoping that your holiday is going to be okay, when really we should be thinking about the poor people who have to keep going through this. It is just so disheartening when you know how much planning and effort you have put into your holiday.

Hi guys

Me and DH are due to fly on 24th too. My problem is that I can't feel like getting on with my planning (I know I should have done this ages ago!) or buying stuff for the trip, as I'm thinking that flights could be cancelled.

To be honest, I would rather it that way and be safe, but as one of the previous posters said, I think it is more going to be sad seeing all the destruction these hurricanes have caused.

I hope for you Leona that everything is OK for your mum's wedding.

And it's so nice to know that I'm not the only one worrying already!

We are also due to depart on 23rd Sept. Although I am not really that worried (I am sure or hoping that there will be no hurricanes) and I am positive that whatever damage Disney etc experienced with Charley and Frances it will all be repaired and cleaned up by then.

Cheer up we are going to Disney after all.

I do have sympathy for all residents in Florida but in a crisis everybody pulls together.

Worse things can happen.

Aye, a hurricane is a nasty beast but a wet holiday seems like small fry compared to what happened in Russia last week :(

Fingers crossed that Ivan will downgrade to a tropical storm and not cause more damage. From the reports coming out of Florida, the parks have all opened again and life is getting back to normal. Floridians are a hardy bunch, they've dealt with these things before and they will again.

I hope that no-one else is affected by the weather.

The Floridian people have been through a lot in the last three weeks and speaking to them - they are resigned to this sort of thing happening. They are also able to react to the situation and make sensible, fact based decisions that would take a month of Sundays and a mountain of "Red tape" to overcome here in the U.K.

How would we go about evacuating two & a half million people in two days and putting a "price freeze" on all essential goods with the back-up of the police who will arrest and charge people on the spot if found breaking this law? Or introduce manditory curfews with 6 x hours notice?

I dont know - I think people would pull together in a situation like this but I have to admire the resolve and quick thinking on a local and national scale. There are people out there in desperate need of help and assistance in re-building their lives and from what I have seen - they WILL get that support.

The biggest problem for UK tourists is basically the fact that it seems air conditioning is out in places (im hiring a villa so who knows if when we get there what the cndition is). Alot of places will be closed for repairs and there will be a lack of certain products etc. I don't for one moment think that Disney will be shut unless there is a hurricane right on them...they are a business and a very well run bunch of parks.
So here we are deciding what to do, I feel guilty about the floridians as well, but the difference is we are choosing to fly into these conditions when we could stay at home and be safe, the last thing we want is to fly all the way to Florida to be hot and end up in some hurricane shelter, theres nothing wrong with not wanting to be a bad situation and know that you have paid £1000 for the privalege.

On parks further afield Tampa seems likely to getting a bad time again so im glad im still in/near Orlando. However on the good side if this thing ends and there is a week or two of clean up things might not be so bad.

I just hope that no one gets killed when it comes in, the floridians are lovely people and I always feel welcome when I go there :)
