Here are two sets of instructions for creating screen captures for a Mac. Feel free to ask for clarification. I think the instructions are correct and complete.
Mal, feel free to add these to the guide.
Simple Mac instructions for capturing the entire screen at least for Mac OS X V10.4.3 (Jaguar):
1. Open Grab utility application (found in Utilities folder that is in the Applications folder). The Grab utility application can be used to capture only part of the screen too.
2. In Grab, open the "Capture" menu then choose screen (shortcut is Command Z).
3. Select the screen you want to capture (I have VMK in the foreground before I open the Grab utility application).
4. When you're ready, just click the mouse on the VMK screen. A window will pop up with your screen capture in it.
5. Choose "Save As..." or "Save" from the "File" menu.
6. At this point you will have a TIFF file which you will need to convert to JPEG. You can do this by opening the TIFF file with the Preview application and choosing "Save As..." from the "File" menu with JPEG as the format. It also makes sense to add ".jpg" to the end of the file name before you save it. This will give you a JPEG file containing the entire screen image, including the menu bar at the top and the dock.
7. If you want to post the file on this board, just follow the instructions given in other threads.
Slightly different Mac instructions for capturing the entire screen and then cropping the image at least for Mac OS X V10.4.3 (Jaguar). This is what I use but it requires Photoshop Elements (You can probably use AppleWorks if you don't have Photoshop. The instructions should be similar.):
7. Open the TIFF file with Photoshop.
8. Use the mouse to select the rectangle of the screen image you want to save.
9. Choose "Crop" from the "Image" menu. This will remove everything outside of the rectangle you selected.
10. Choose "Save for Web" from the "File" Menu. I then use the default settings.
11. If you want to post the file on this board, just follow the instructions given in other threads.
