Hi,
I am new to this board, and we were thinking about taking our daughter to WDW in August.
I wanted some tips/info about driving there. How long it took if anyone drove from the same area or how much to expect in gas etc etc.
any info will be a great help.
Thanks

Three words. Fly from Buffalo. We did this our last trip, flying Southwest Airlines from Buffalo, also in August. We paid $632 US for 4 of us.

I live about 2 1/2 hours north of niagara falls. We drove last year but took the i 75 route. I would assume you would take the other route living that close to buffalo. My family is my wife and I and two boys aged 7 and 6. We drove a 2008 Hyundai Elantra and spent about $300 on gas. That was at the high gas prices of last summer. I would expect it to be about half that now that gas isn't $4 a gallon this year.
Overall including gas food and 1 night hotel stay each way we spent about $600 to get there.

I would assume it to be about 18-20 hours from there but i could be wrong.

HI neighbor! And welcome to the DIS :goodvibes
We have driven several times, DH and I just drove down for a quick trip last month actually. And we're going in August too (but flying as we're travelling with 8 people)
If you visit fuelcostcalculator.com it will give you a good idea of how much gas will cost (use Buffalo to Orlando).
The best way for you and the quickest if you drive is the same route we always take I-190-I-90-I-77-I-79-us19-I-26-I-95 (I think the order's right - hubbie's not here to help). It's a beautiful drive through the mountains and then through the Carolinas, Georgia and then Florida. Lots of nice rest stops along the way and plenty of places to stop to eat and gas up. We usually stop in Charlotte, NC or Columbia SC along the way for the night, that way we get twelve hours out of the way the first day, then only have 8-9 hours the next day (whole trip takes about 20 hours).
Let me know if you have any questions. Have fun planning if you decide to take her!

For a family of 3, it really is hard to beat flying. The cost should be relatively comparable (flying out of Buffalo), and the convenience factor is huge. Some people prefer to drive, but I'm not one of them. ;)

We love flying but also drive every once in a while.
Flying Southwest out of Buffalo is so easy and cheap. Nothing beats taking the 7am flight and sitting poolside before noon!

If you think you will need a rental car then check out Mousesavers.com for rental car codes. They can be really reasonable. With only three people you likely won't need a large vehicle.

We have also driven quite a few times. We like to leave fairly early on the first day and have a long driving day, stopping in Georgia to sleep. That way the next day you can be in WDW before lunch.

Hello neighbor! Welcome to the DIS ! N.O.T.L. here. We always fly out from buffalo, I hate to waste time driving.

I'll start a new thread so I'm not hi-jacking this one and see how many are interested in a meet in our area!:goodvibes
