Hello :yay:

Last time we went to WDW we didn't venture outside of WDW and we didn't plan to do this agin this year.

However we are now thinking that a day at Universal Studios might be a nice day out??? :confused3

I would be really thankful if people could please let me know what universal is like?

And more importantly how easy / difficult is it to get to it? (we don't have a car as niether of us would want to drive over there!)

I look forward to your responses everyone

IMO Universal and Islands of Adventure are fab. As far as my family are concerned, the rides there are unmissable! If you haven't already, take a look at the website to get an idea.

I'm intending to take DS in December and will probably book a town car. They seem to be around $70 plus tip for the round-trip from here...

when i went in january i got the lynx bus from the TTC $1.50 each it included a free transfer for you to change bus at seaworld and then you went on to universal (it was the last stop) we then got a taxi back to dtd about $30-$35 hope this helps

thanks you 2. :goodvibes

Ariel75 could you get the bus back or did you simply prefer to get a cab back?

It always, always amazes me that people do not include Universal/Islands and Sea World in their holiday plans for Orlando. These parks are fantastic and should never be missed no matter what. To say it may be a nice day out is an understatement. Please try to go to Islands as well, you will have experienced nothing in the world like the Spiderman ride, totally state of the art. My favourite is the Popeye Bilge Boat Rapids, we have such a good laugh on them and get absolutely soaked.

They are just as good, if not better, than the Disney parks but at least if you go you can form your own opinion and please do go.:)

Don't forget the Mears shuttle. We have done this on all 3 trips and it worked out really well for us. There are only the two of us and if I remember correctly it's 15 dollars each for the round trip. We stay (always! :goodvibes ) at the Pop and simply dial 0 from our room and ask to be connected to the Mears shuttle who will then let you know what times in the morning the bus will pick up guests in front of the hotel. You pay your driver for both trips then get a voucher for the return, calling from your cell phone an hour before you would like to return. We didn't have a working :headache: phone with us so we arranged the time in advance but that is fine too. Just remember if you choose Mears to ask for the shuttle and not the taxi because the taxi costs about 60 odd dollars one way!

Both Universal and IOA are really wonderful parks that we wouldn't miss, please try them at least once but yes do go to both when you do! We always go twice and begin in IOA for the Hulk and Spiderman, both amazing but next time I want to begin at Universal so I can see Islands of Adventure in the dark :goodvibes .

Although Universal and Islands are fantastic attractions I do not think Sea World is any more. Unfortunately it seems that anything extra you want to do costs more. My family and I were there last year and found Sea World to be a disappoinment. Once we paid our entrance fee and wanted to touch the dolphins it turned out that you had to pay for fish to get near them. This was different to previous visits as stroking them was free. The shows were okay but did need that extra bit of zing! I know that all the parks are there to make money, even Disney! However, what we objected to was the way in which it is presented. All kids want to stroke dolphins and Sea World play on this. Next time we go Sea World will not be on our agenda.

We've used the Mears shuttle from an on-site hotel when we've not had a car and found it worked well. As has already been said, we were given a time to be picked up at WDW and rang Mears (using a payphone) from Universal when we wanted to go back to WDW to get the next shuttle time. I think it was $12 each return when we last used it, so I suspect it's closer to $20 now but that's only £10 each 'door to door service'.
