Myself, DH, and 2yr old will be arriving at DLR at around 4PM on our first day. We're going mid May so DL closes at 8PM. We have this 1 evening and 2 more full days after. Where would you recommend starting on our first evening with a 2yr old? What are lines typically like at that time of day?

And we'll probably want to eat, just counter service probably. Unless someone recommends something better.

BTW...we'll take advantage of MM the next day. Our first "full" day.

Thank you

I'd find some food... maybe walk through Fantasyland, ride the carousel... if you mid-May day is a weekday, lines might not be horrible... start out with the easy rides: carousel, casey jr., storybook land, dumbo if the line isn't horrible & everyone is in a good mood to wait a bit! :goodvibes

After you do those rides, then I'd probably save trying the 1st "dark" ride for your magic morning... Peter Pan 1st, then probably Alice, and then you can judge whether you want to try Toady, Pinnochio & Snow White--my dd loved these at 3 (and still does), but I remember my brother screaming to be let off Toady at 4, and Snow White is a bit scary. (you-tube the ride throughs to let you kiddo watch them beforehand, and watch disney movies before your trip!!) Pooh isn't during MM, but it is a great ride for little ones... and all of Bug's land (in DCA) will be great once you are done with MM.

have fun!!

I would avoid crowds and head to Bugs Land in California Adventure which generally has short lines in the late afternoon and evening as families tend to go home. Other ideas without long lines are Monsters Inc., Turtle Talk or Disney Animation.

Muppets has some simulated explosions that may scare a 2yr old, depends on your child. Tough to be a Bug has sequences of darkness, spiders that drop down from ceiling, loud sounds and smoke and is not recommended for very young kids.

Head over to Disneyland and catch the fireworks but beware of huge crowds on mainstreet.

I was going to suggest bugsland at DCA too ! Maybe you can get in a "playhouse Disney" show? get some alfresco counter service, and watch the lights of the Pier in the evening.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking Bugsland might be best, but I'm anxious to see Disney! But it sounds like Bugs might be a nice place to break our son in. I know he'll love the Pixar Parade.

If you are coming at 4pm, I'd recommend eating at Cafe Orleans, sit outside people watch, soak in the Disney atmosphere and then ride Pirates, walk back through CritterCountry and take a ride on Pooh, maybe see some Characters out and about.. then walk through Frontierland, go to the petting zoo, keep walking to Fantasyland and see what lines are shortest and do those. On a week day Mid-May you should be able to do all that before 7pm.

We've been early May and mid-June and have had PS for Cafe Orleans but also walked up and waited maybe 15 minutes in JUNE for an outside table, it can be done, especially at 4pm. Maybe you'll see us there, we'll be there mid May too! :goodvibes

Same as Huff. I'd head over to DCA, back to the Bug's Life rides. Grab myself a Cherry Slushy and enjoy. Save that first sight of the castle for the next morning.

Thank you

We just got back a few weeks ago with our son who is 16 months old, he absolutely LOVED Dumbo, he said weeeeee and wow!!! the whole time it was sooooo cute!. He loved the carousel in fantasyland, bugs land, monsters inc. and muppets 3D in DCA, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is a fun interactive ride that the kids enjoy.

Hope you guys enjoy your trip!:)

Call me a traditionalist, but I say start at Disneyland (unless it's hot and the tyke is dying to run around, then the sprinklers at A Bug's Land would be ideal). I second the suggesting of finding something to eat (there are a number of good CS places). Fantasyland is a great place to start, but if there are characters out, and you don't mind standing in line, it might be a way to keep things low-key without any serious overstimulation from the rides.
