Getting the Premier Pass a better deal for me and getting it cheaper??

So I'm just sort of typing this to think out loud and so if someone knows a cheaper option to chime in.

My wife and I have the Signature DL pass at $999 (we go a few times a month). We add on maxpass for another $75. buying Discounted tickets from a local authorized reseller and using my 2% cashback card and then paying the remaining pass amount with Target 5% off Disney gift cards would bring the total down to $981

If I get 8-day Park hopper plus WDW tickets from UndercoverTourists it costs $516 but using my 2% on everything credit card I'd end up spending $505

together thats $1486

If I purchase the premier passport at $1579 using the same methods as above it brings it down to $1461

If I use the same methods above to get a DL signature pass+ maxpass and a DVC discounted gold pass and waterpark pass it would total out to $1634

So through all the discounts I can think of, getting the premier pass would be the cheapest option for me. Is there any thing im not thinking of or any better deals on anything?

For us, we have the DL Sig+ and upgraded to the Premier. We had discounted 7-day Park hoppers for WDW but after factoring in 169$ for Memory Maker, not even including any extra table service or merch discounts, it was 41$ cheaper without using cash back or 5% target red card.

I say go for it! We did, and we’re planning a 2nd trip within the year now too. :rotfl:

It's just wierd how everyone advises against it. But for me the finances work out, and that's before even factoring in memory Maker or discounts.

If I get it I'll have the quadfecta of dvc blue card, d23 membership, Disney visa, and premier pass

I know, I saw that opinion a lot too. I think it just depends on what level pass for each coast you need. For lower level passes it probably doesn’t make sense.

I have everything but the d23 now too. We ended up joining DVC on our last trip haha.

I think that the reason you usually see people advise against it is that the majority of this board is WDW focused so people are usually doing more trips at WDW with the higher level passes and then trying to see if it makes sense to do tickets or the premier pass for a trip or two to DL (at least that is what I have mostly seen over the years I have been here). If you are primarily going to DL, and usually get the higher level passes there, the math is completely different because of the different pricing structures between DL and WDW. I also hated the logistics of renewal of the premier pass the two years we had it, but it wouldn't have been an issue at all if I went to DL more than WDW, but with FP+ logistics and only being able to renew in person it was annoying to say the least, and I wasted so much time at ticket booths, it is a process that I would prefer to stay away from.

Since I go to the DL 2-3 times a month, the in person renewal doesn't bother me much. My renewal is in January anyway, when things slow down, so there's almost no wait at the ticketing booth

If you plan on going to the d23 expo and buying your expo tickets before the Nov 20th price raise, getting a d23 membership and 2+ tickets is cheaper than just getting 2 non member tickets....in case you needed an excuse to get it

I love having the Premier Pass. The primary objection is that it feels expensive, but if you're a Disneyland passholder and you're going to spend the difference in WDW tickets, it's a no-brainer.

I usually go the opposite direction, though, to save money. I buy an Undercover Tourist ticket for WDW, whichever one gives me the biggest discount off the gate price, and then upgrade it to a Premier Pass at WDW (making sure that they credit me for the full undiscounted value of the WDW ticket). You can still use your Target gift cards for the upgrade if you want the 5% off.

If I'm reading this right it looks like you're planning on buying a discounted Disneyland ticket and a discounted WDW ticket and combining them for your upgrade. But I'm pretty sure you can only use 1 ticket per upgrade. I could be wrong though.

You’ve dine the math and it works for you.

Others have done the math and it does NOT work for them. Nothing weird about that. Definitely nothing weird about telling people to do the math.

I haven’t gotten it to work for me. But I’m Dvc and the Gold AP makes the math different. And I never get the biggest DL AP.

I *want* the premier. But the math doesn’t work for me.

It’s just a math problem.

Yep.

I’m not sure if that’s what the op is shooting for, but just in case, it’s good to make sure they know.

Then you guys misunderstood me. I was only going to do that if I was going to buy passes separately, or just buy dl pass and wdw tickets. If I'm getting the premier then I'm going to just get the discounted dl ticket

If you have a Premier Pass is Max pass included or do you still have to pay $75 for it?

Should be included because it's equivalent to the Signature Plus at DLR + whatever the highest level of pass at WDW is.

Thank you

Take Advantage of All These Benefits
I can tell you that when I get this pass (for my next trip to WDW), I'm buying the AP online for WDW so I can pre-book FPs for the 13-14 park days that we will be doing, rather than getting discounted tickets from UT and upgrading. At least, I think we can pre-book all FPs if we're staying on property the entire time.

Plus, the AP won't "start" until we activate it at WDW so we will be fine with that too and make our DLR passes last a bit longer :D
