Can my friends go get their DAS at one of the places outside of the park the day before they are going into the parks?

Also, at DL you get your DAS signed at different kiosks around the park. Did I read correctly that at WDW you go to the specific ride? Does the person who belongs to the pass have to be the one to get it signed? (you don't at DL).

I think it has been hit or miss with getting it at an outside GS.

The person who the DAS belongs to does not need to be the one going to the ride to get the return time.

Agreeing with Michigan.

WDW's webpage lists the outside of the park Guest Relations as the places to get DAS cards issued.
Some people have gotten one at the Guest Relations outside of the park, but others have been told they are not being issued outside. There are a number of factors - like how busy it is with people who need ticket issues resolved before going into the park and whether or not the iPad and printer uses to issue the DAS are available.

At WDW, DAS Return Times are given at the attractions.
The person the DAS was issued to does not have to be there to request a Return Time, but does need to go on the attraction.

There is a WDW DAS thread near the top of this board. The first post of that thread is a DAS FAQs.
Here is a link to the thread:

also something to think about are you really wanting to take a child to a park to get DAS without going in? child would have to be with you even if you can get it done. I know my grandkids would have a major fit to get to a park but not go in

The child is 19 so hopefully she wouldn't have too big of a fit- lol. Do you know if the line is typically very long/ slow? When we got my son's DAS at DL we got in line right when it opened and we were in line over an hour. The line never was any shorter. There are three 18-19 year old girls going ( graduation gift for cousins). The mom is already worried that she won't be able to get them around and to the park very early and then is afraid the line will be really long to get it.

That is not the norm at WDW.

We were at WDW in October, about 3 weeks after DAS was rolled out and it was also when Magicband use was just extended to a large number more people.
Because we had some problems with our Magicbands, we could not get into Epcot, so had to use the outside Guest Relations. As long as we were there, we also got DD's DAS.
Our wait was over 30 minutes, but DH waited in line and I waited outside of the line with DD until he got almost to the window. Most of the people waiting had ticket/Magicband issues. The actual getting the DAS took about 5 minutes.
We actually went right to Guest Relations inside Epcot to get some first visit pins for the family members with us - the wait there was less than 5 minutes.

We were at WDW in March 2014 and got a DAS renewed at the inside the park Guest Relations. This was during Spring break when the parks were very busy - our wait was less than 5 minutes.
