my Son-i-L decided this would be a great week to finally get around to painting a couple rooms. only thing is we are having family christmas eve gathering on the 1st floor of that area. :sad2:

soooooooo what are your suggestions about getting rid of paint smell?
I searched online & read:
candles
vinegar
onions ( uh, but won;t the room smell of onions?)
& too late ,, but putting vanilla in the paint.

what has really worked for you?

( I really don't mind the smell, but not when you are having a dinner & party in the area of it.)

We're painting our house right now, and we just open the windows in the room we're painting and the next day the smell is gone.

This.

most interior/water based paints have less of an odor than exterior/oil based, so it shouldn't be much of a problem.

I burned a candle while painting yesterday. By evening you couldn't smell the paint.

10 degrees outside, not gonna work
plus he is painting 'something' every day this week.

We're in AZ, so weather isn't an issue, but we are painting the entire house right now, so at least one room a day.

Even though it's cold, I would still try to keep the windows open as long as you can. If he's painting a bedroom, just shut the door and open the windows until you need to use the room. Really gets the stink out fast.

I have no solutions to your current problem but I can help you avoid it in the future and still be able to paint. Paint free of VOCs is virtually smell free and non toxic to you and the environment. It's a little more expensive but a good thing to use for human and earth safety. Valspar is one brand and I think it's a Benjamin Moore product. There are others.

We used those in our kids rooms, and it was amazing how you could be standing there with the paint can and not smell a thing.
