Getting ready to start making offers!

Had to share (if this is in the wrong forum, sorry)!

Thought that buying would be a good two years out. Until my stupidness kicked in. I work for the local college, and am taking Grad classes. The past three semesters, I have been paying for classes (just over $14k in total). Long story short: I thought only undergrad classes were free. Guess not. Accounting finally caught up with what was happening and this past weeks check was much larger.

DVC TIME!

Only problem: still debating AKV or SSR.

SSR seems we could get more 40ish more points over AKV. Plus the dues are higher at AKV also. Ugh. Now it gets hard. Getting the money was easy.

But I'm with Bill, what about the other resorts? There is much to recommend the other resorts as well.

Are you looking at buying resale or direct? Because resale you can get close to double the points at any resort you want! (Although this might not be the best idea because it's double the maintenance fees). Or...you can get equal points for half off. Either way, it's something to consider. Congrats on your windfall.

AKV and SSR are the two that we narrowed it down to. On our trip this past May we took the DVC tour and then went and toured the DVC resorts on our own. Those were the two the we both really enjoyed. I also like BLT, but it was to modern for my wife's liking.

Resale. At first we were really debating buying direct, my wife was super excited hearing about doing cruises and the other trips, but after asking here and reading more, they are not worth the points. That stuff holds no interest to me anyway. Resale for us!

If I had it to do over again, I would start with a contract knowing that I might not end up with it being our permanent home.

We own at VWL, BCV, BWV, AKV, and BLT. We have stayed at all of the resorts except Aulani several times. We first bought at BCV thinking that we were home, As time went on, we discovered that BWV is our favorite and BLT our least favorite. We enjoy SSR and stay there often but don't have any reason to buy there because SSR is available 95% of the time.
