Getting ready for Disney

Exactly one month until we leave for Disney! I have one concern. I'm out of shape. Very out of shape. I wake up, go to work, sit all day in front of a computer, come home, and spend the rest of the evening on the couch. I know, it's awful of me, I just don't feel like doing anything after a long day in the office. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease this time last year. I was put on antibiotics and now it's testing negative. But my legs still ache sometimes. Is there anything I should be doing to help me get ready for Disney? Granted, it wasn't as big when I went the first time, should I be walking more? getting out and "training" for my trip? I forget how big the parks actually were when I was there 15 years ago. Any advice? I'm just a little worried I'm not going to be able to handle this. :worried:

Get thee to walking...NOW. Even if only 30 minutes a day. Believe me, building up your stamina re: walking will greatly enhance your experience; otherwise, you're gonna be exhausted all the time.

Also, when you walk, walk in the shoes you'll be wearing at Disney. I'd have two pairs of shoes that alternate, actually. One pair one day, another pair the next. They both need to be broken in and comfortable. Blisters are no fun at Disney. Take it from one who wore flip flops one day, and paid for it the rest of the trip with ocean-sized blisters between my toes.

WALK. I'm not a tiny bauble myself and you definitely want to get some walking started. Can you walk around your building on your lunch hour (inside or outside)? Before you sit down at night go for a walk. Like PP said do 15 minutes to starte. I have a St. Bernard that insists on going out so that helps me. I don't walk until 9:30/10:00 at night as I usually don't have the time to settle down 'til then.

Just find something, you'll thank yourself. Having 1 month definitely will help.

Yes, walk, walk and walk some more. You'll do a couple of things. Find the footwear that doesn't hurt your feet, and find allll those body areas that will chafe. You'll be able to do something about it BEFORE you go instead of being in misery there.

Find excuses to walk... all the traditional ones, park further away than usual, that sort of thing. Take stairs! Instant workout.

Try drinking tonic water (there is a diet tonic) to help those legs... and ward off cramps in your calves. OUCH!

Oh I agree with everybody else... get out there and go for walks... maybe a couple walks per day if possible... do you drive to work and is it in a location where it's feasible to park 10 minutes walk away? THat forces you to walk 20 minutes a day just from getting from Car to office... if you take transit get off a few stops early and walk the rest?

I love going to walks during lunch; it's awesome and helps me unwind. -- evening walks are a nice way to unwind as well. Another way to walk without pressure on your joints is to go a pool and run laps in the shallow end. I had to do this as part of my physio after I injured my knee.

I know its not easy to get motivated but it's better to suffer at home building up stamina then getting to WDW and finding you just can't handle the walking.

Plus all those walks will do wonders for your heart and body :)

Oh and yes.. work in those shoes!

I alternate between Keens and my runners usually while a WDW. I leave my flip flops for lounging around the resorts/pool.
