Hello, I am new to this and have a question, I see that the DVC points are registered at the deluxe resorts but we have our hearts set on the Port Orleans Riverside or the new Art of Animation. Could any one tell me how many points I would need for those resorts. Here are the specifics of what I am looking for.

Art of Animation - Standard room from Feb 24 - Mar 9
Port Orleans Riverside - Royal room from Feb 24- Mar 9 or the Alligator Bayou standard room for the same dates.

The dates are flexible as long as we are there on Feb 25!! (Birthday!!!!) :

Thank you.

Art of animation and Riverside are not DVC properties, so you can't rent points there. You will have to pay posted room rates.

Per my 2013 points chart, a stay at PO for your dates takes between 21 and 29 points per night - depending on weekday or weekend nights and view from your room.

It would probably be cheaper to rent directly from Disney when they have a discount than paying a DVC owner to reserve the room. If you go the DVC route, there is also a $95 fee involved.

You may also have a hard time finding a DVC owner who is willing to make that reservation for you. The rules are different for a cancellation when you book a non-DVC resort. They would basically not be able to use those points for a DVC resort if you were to cancel. I would never take that risk with my points.

DVC owners can use their points at some of the non-DVC resorts. The points needed per room is so high that it isn't a very popular option among DVC members.

In addition to the high number of points required (you can likely stay in a DVC 1BR villa for the same or fewer points), there is also a $95 reservation fee charged by DVC for these non-DVC reservations whether a Moderate resort, Deluxe resort or Disney cruise.

You might consider renting a DVC villa from a member and trying different type of accommodation than a typical resort room. :)

I am just curious as to why you would want to use DVC points for a moderate or value resort. Are you a new DVC owner or has a friend or relative offered you their points?

Generally it is a better use of one's money to rent or use DVC points for DVC properties. If your heart is really set on AoA and POR which are Disney resorts, not DVC, then just pay cash for a regular room reservation. Or, if you have points that you must use, try to find a DVC resort that you will be happy with. The DVC forum would be a good source of information on this.
