Getting Pixie Dust

Folks,
If you happen to get pixie dust sprinkled on you and land a free upgrade, how do you hear about it? Do they send you something or do you just happen to notice your cabin number changed on the web site?
Also if it does happen is there any particular time? (after you pay in full? After the official PIF date? The day before you get on the ship?)
I think my daughters cabin is more likely to get upgraded since we had 2 adjoin inside rooms and had to drop one. (so they might want that pair for someone looking for two adjoining rooms).
Just wondering (and hoping). We'll be very happy with what we have but would certainly be thrilled to go up a level. :cool1:

Most cases, you'll see it when you look online. Some cases (people who don't keep checking their online info), they won't know until they check in at the port.

Upgrades can happen at any time.

Do you mean connecting? Adjoining just means next door to each other.

We got upgraded for free from a 5a to a 4a on our Med cruise in 2010. There was no notification, I just noticed a different room number when I logged in one day. :cool1:

I've never seen it happen before being paid in full (that doesn't mean it couldn't). You can find out by realizing that the room number in the computer isn't what you booked, or seeing this on your luggage tags...or you can find out when you arrive at the terminal.

Do not worry if this happens--your luggage is bar coded (DCL luggage tags), and will follow you to the new room. If you learn of a room change before going to the port, just write in the new room with a black marker. If you learn of the change at the terminal or purchase an upgrade at the terminal, your luggage will come. We do give our stateroom host our old room info so he/she knows where to look if there is a question (this also helps in getting fish mail because the host from the old room knows where to send it).

We have found out on line in advance and at the terminal. The closer it gets to the cruise, the more likely you are to see it. Do remember that an assignment that you see on line can be changed before boarding (not often, but it does happen). If DCL can sell the room, they will move you.

Typically within the last two weeks, once all GTY and *GT rates are assigned a cabin.

I got a 5e cabin last year under an OGT rate... very happy. This year, we have a 5b cabin but no pixie dust yet and we leave in 10 days :(

I noticed by logging in to the dcl site but two days later our dreams ta sent me an email to let me know.

We booked a 10B GTY for our first DCL cruise and were pixie dusted to a 9C. I found out about it when I logged into our account around 45 days before sailing.
We were thrilled!

If you specifically enter a room number eve. You book you can't be upgraded, correct? As nice as it would be, we have an inside and an ocean view with verandah across the hall and need them to stay this way as the kids (teens) will be across the hall.

No, they can and will still move you. Call or have your TA call and put a "Do Not Upgrade" notation on your reservation.

No. They can upgrade you anyway... They will noticed however you have two rooms, though they could make a mistake and upgrade only one.

If you do not want them upgraded, specifically put in a request to NOT upgrade them OR upgrade them ONLY if they are across or next to each other. This way, they could potentially upgrade you the inside to a verandah and put it next to your existing verandah.

How common is it for people to be sprinkled with Pixie Dust and be upgraded? Is it rare? Don't want to get my hopes up!

It is far more rare in reality than the boards here make it appear.
