Getting our Date???

My coordinator told me that they have to block off the entire weekend for our wedding event. This is confusing to me, does this mean that we will have to go into a lottery if someone else is planning on getting married in the same place and time, but on a different day during that weekend???

I wanted to know the same thing, because we have two dates we want and so I am concerned how that works! We are booking exactly a year before our first pick so we will see...

Basically they hold the lottery for all the days in a certain weekend on the Monday one year in advance. For example we wanted (and got) Sunday,November 9, 2008 for our wedding. They held the lottery for the 7th, 8th, and 9th on November 12th, 2007. I hope that makes sense. My planner called us about 2 weeks ahead of time to let us know there was another couple whose times would overlap ours to see what back up we were interested in.

So does that mean if we are trying to get a Saturday and someone else is trying to get Sunday we will not both be able to have our weddings?

Do they do this on weekdays too or is it just the weekends?

No, it's only if another couple wants the same date, time and location as you. If no one else wants what you want you don't have to go into the lottery.

If two couples want the same thing they have to do a lottery no matter what the day is. My wedding is on a Wednesday and another bride wanted the same time slot as me for the WP so they had to do the lottery, I was stressed out a little but it all went away when I found out I won :yay:

Hi, thanks for the info.

I wonder what the chances of me winning a lottery would be if I had an Escape wedding and someone else had a Wishes?! I wonder....

That's great to know, because I know that Lindsay on this board and I will be having the same locations a day apart and it was very confusing if they had to book the space for the entire weekend how we would both get our dates. But it also doesn't make sense for Disney to only allow one wedding in a location per 3 days! Thanks so much!

I think it said on another thread that Wishes get priority over Escape as they spend more but that might not be true.

Don't stress me out like this!!!

I have horrific visions of not being able to get a date at all within our holiday time and having to refund all our guests that have already booked their holidays! :scared1:

I'm pretty definite that Wishes couples would "win" over Escapes, I don't think they'd even do a lottery if it was between one of each type of wedding.
I may be wrong, but it does worry me.......

I think as long as you have some flexibility you should have no problem ie another day or time or location. I've not heard of any brides on here not getting what they want have you?

But now, when do you find out if youve won the "lottery" is it as least 8 months before the wedding??!

Exactly...if you can be a little flexible it will help! Three factors are used: date, time, location. If you have your heart set on a location, try to be a little more flexible on the date/time (especially if you are going to be there over several days). If your heart is set on a specific date, try to be a little more flexible on the time/location. The ceremony time is probably the easiest to be flexible on. If they've told you there will need to be a lottery, ask what other options you might have to avoid that.

I believe in most cases it's about at the year mark (maybe a day or two before or after).

I can't remember if I've ever heard of someone who didn't get their date/time/location since I've been around here. But I'm sure there was someone somewhere who didn't...just the nature of the lottery.

Again, just keep in mind to try to be flexible. ;)

OOo okay, we are booking after the year mark so I guess that wont be a problem? lol

Probably not...they'll let you know!;)

It just happened to me yesterday and we are already in the lottery for next weekend as well. It's our last chance for a Disney wedding :(

I was just told I'd be in a lottery too! I'm so nervous because we want a specific date and I reeeeally don't want to give that up. We're flexible on the location and time to a point. We're aiming for June 2009 and it'll be too hot to have it outside during the day. *fingers crossed*
