Getting on wait list with Disney

Can someone help me out here? DH and I have decided to buy into DVC, but we do not want any of the resorts that are currently being sold. We thought about AKV, but we changed our minds. We are now looking at BCV (1st choice) and VWL (2nd choice). We want to buy directly through Dsiney so we don't have to wait long or go through ROFR.

Question is, how do we get on a waiting list with Disney for the above resorts? Do we have to fill out a contract and put money down, or can we do that when the resort becomes available? Also, how long are most people on waiting lists? When something opens up, are they "set" contracts or are they flexible with points and use year month? I know they buy some back through resale and am wondering if they sale them "as is" or break them up and put them back into a "pot".

Any advice or info is greatly appreciated!

To buy direct, contact your guide. If you don't have a guide, call 800-500-3990 and you will be assigned one.

Although I respect your decision to buy direct, I hope you have weighed the cost difference. There is a current discussion at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1972262 which I urge you to read.

If you are looking to buy quickly, then going direct is probably the thing to do, as long as Disney has inventory.

Reading these boards, lots of folks seem to stress over ROFR. It really isn't a big deal. If you don't pass ROFR, there's always another contract out there which you can make an offer on. Of course, this does take time.

Good Luck.

good luck. some people have waited over a year on the waitlist to get BCV directly. (edited to add: some have only waited a few days...you never know.)

it's probably best to call a guide. i don't believe money is required up front, but i could be mistaken.

it varies by UY. for BCV, it can be a long time (see waitlist thread linked above).

When something opens up, are they "set" contracts or are they flexible with points and use year month?

they are completely flexible with pts if you buy directly. usually they will include current year pts. you can also pick a specific UY month (although - again - some UY months may take longer for them to find).

I know they buy some back through resale and am wondering if they sale them "as is" or break them up and put them back into a "pot".

yes, when they ROFR a large contract, they can break it up and put the points back into a pot.

I was under the impression you had to put money down. Didn't someone recently state they had to put down $500 good faith money?

I was told it was $1000 deposit when I gave the specific number of points, home resort, and use year. I must indicate all of the three parameters, they did not want 'flexable' wants (like I said use year did not matter, but they would not accept that, I had to state a use year).

I did not have a ton of trust with my guide, so perhaps I misunderstood his comments regarding how to 'waitlist'. YMMV

My guide told me it is $500 down to get on the waitlist. If you are a new buyer, you can only buy a min of 160 points to start out at a sold out resort. As a member you can buy as little as 25 points.

I am a dvc member, I have bought both ways. When I bought BWV, it was instantly. I have just bought a add on at BCV's, I did give my guide my Credit Card, I told my guide what UY I wanted, I have 3. I did wait 2 months, he told me he thought it would be at least 4 months. I believe that BCV's has the longest wait time, but well worth it. Now, when I bought my BCV contract from the TTS, It had 2006, 2007, 2008 points, it cleared ROFR within 4 weeks. I was shocked. Now, I waited on this contract to show up for a year. I was watching every day.
On my BCV add on... I did receive 2007, 2008 points, my Uy is Oct and no closing costs. This brings the costs close to the same price.
