Getting on and off rides

It's another newbie question! I am an uncoordinated geek when it comes to steps - it always takes me a few moments to get on an escalator! I am wondering about getting on and off some of the rides, as I've read some described as continuously loading. Does this mean they don't stop??? I don't want to make a fool of myself falling into a ride car!!!

Well there is an escalator that run next to the car. So, yes you're moving. But it's at the same pace as the car.

Yes, some of them are continuously moving... like the Haunted Mansion ride. In 2003, I visited WDW in a wheelchair after having surgery on my achilles tendon, and so I had to "hop" onto that ride. If I can do it with 1 leg, I'm sure you can manage! LOL Have fun and let us know how your trip goes, ok?

Yes, the platforms and cars are moving but if there is a problem the CMs will stop the ride.

The only real embarressing thing that I have ever seen was in Summer 2003 a fat lady got stuck in the turnstile at the Haunted Mansion with a ton of people in line behind her. She couldn't move, her husband pushed, her son pushed, but she wasn't going anywhere. Finally, the poor thing managed to wiggle through, much to the relief of fellow mansion goers.

It was a sight!!!

(BTW...it was me!!! Last straw that convinced me to have gastric bypass! But once I was thru, it was ok, no problem at all with platforms )

Not to worry! There's enough space for you to safely get into and out of the vehicles without running and jumping And once you're off you can take your time getting of the moving platform onto the regular ground.....but I'm making it sound a lot harder than it is

Your geekiness will come into play BEFORE you load and well AFTER you get out. Before you load, you will walk from regular flooring onto a moving sidewalk (more or less). This may seem to you like walking on an escalator, except there's no up/down. This moving sidewalk is moving at exactly the same speed as the ride vehcles, EXACTLY IN SYNCH with them. So once you're on that moving sidewalk, it'll seem as though the ride vehicle you're trying to get into is not moving at all.

It'll be the same when you get out. Your vehicle may be cruising along at one mile per hour, but when you look at the "ground" next to it, the ground won't be moving at all, because it's moving at that very same one mile per hour. Once you're safely standing up, you'll walk (or ride the sidewalk) to the regular platform, and yes, there you'll get to display your grace and coordination as you step from the slow-moving platform onto the regular unmoving floor. That moment is exactly like walking off a moving sidewalk at an airport. But like I said, it's AFTER you get out of the ride vehicle and NOT at the same point/moment you get out of the ride vehicle.

You'll be fine. But just in case, have a loved one ride before you so they can videotape, and then show us afterwards and let us have a good laugh.

Yes there are rides that have continuous loading, but it's not a problem whether you're clumsy or not. I am a self described clutz and that's what I was tagged by my freinds but I manage, so I'm sure you will too!
To tell you the truth, it would probably be a shorter list if I told you the rides that didnt have this! It keeps the lines short though, so I have an appreciation for it!

Honey I'm so sorry that happened to you that had to be a horrible experience....

On another note my father who has had some strokes and has some other health problems and now moves at the speed of a snail didn't have any problems getting on/off the moving platforms, he had to concentrate really hard to step onto the ride then again when he got off the ride but really no problems at all.....it's easy just watch the floor I think the most difficult is Spaceship Earth, they don't give you much time to move your butt after you get out of the seat

At least I'm not alone! I live in constant fear, especially on my solo trips, that I'll klutz out and fall as I'm getting off a ride with a moving platform thing. Spaceship Earth and Haunted Mansion are the ones that scare me the most. One time in Epcot, I tripped on the sidewalk (there was big crack, but for some reason I couldn't find it later) and went sprawling forward onto the ground. People came rushing to my aid-I think they thought I'd passed out from the heat. That's when I learned that the first aid station in near the old Odyssey resturaunt and they're very nice there. Sorry, I can't give you advice, but it really helps to know I'm not the only klutz.

if klutziness is your only problem you'll be ok. locomotion problems or balance problems not so much. ( i always have a problem getting on or off due to them but so far have managed not to splat on my rear which would be a serious problem cause i probably couldn't get up and round an round i'd go for infinity well at least it would be at wdw!)

I am forever afraid of of those moving platforms. I know they aren't going that fast, but once you're on them they seem to be going very fast. There are quite a few rides that use them. I know Buzz Lightyear does, which wasn't mentioned. Doesn't a few of the Fantasyland rides use them too- or am I just imagining this-- like Peter Pan and Pooh???

• Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Steep moving ramp to get up to boarding area; moving walkway at boarding and exit
• Pirates has a moving ramp to get back up to ground level after exiting.
• Haunted Mansion
• Buzz Lightyear
• Space Mountain

Epcot

• Spaceship Earth
• Journey into your Imagination
• American Adventure area to get up to theater has stairs or an escalator (your choice). After the show, everyone exits via a steep ramp (non-moving).

Studio

• Rock N Roller Coaster doesn't have a moving walkway, but you have a limited amount of time to load.

AK

• Kali River Rapids

People with disabilities can board at the exit for these attractions (after waiting in the regular line until just before the regular boarding area - exception is Spaceship Earth).
