I was wondering...if I go to Disney World and use the Magical Express to get to AKL, is there a way for me to easily get off Disney property? I hope I can go to a grocery store to buy some food to keep in the room, but using Magical Express, obviously wouldn't have my own transportation. Is there an easy (and cheap) way to get off Disney property and to a grocery store?

Greetings,

Their is a Goodings supermarket within walking distance of DownTown Disney. Take your resort bus there. It's not too bad of a walk from there. A bit pricey, but a real grocery store......You could just stay put and put an order into netgrocer. Most of the resorts have a limited conveinence store to buy some perishables, medicines, etc......

Regards

Others post on delivered groceries but they do not deliver any alcohol, beer and wine. We also like to pick our own stuff so we do the bus to DTD and walk to Goodings. Others say its pricey but its cheaper than Disney and you save the delivery fee and tip. We take a rolling duffle bag with us, its a nice walk in the evening, alittle long but you're going to be walking all trip so whats alittle more. We load up on pop, beer and wine. the usual chips and candy stuff and we buy lunch meat, rolls and pickles for our pool lunches. Nothing beats sitting around a pool, munching on a home made sandwich and swilling a cold one. Impromptu picnics we like, even run to FW, Trails End for some take out chicken and slaw for late night pool picnics. Time out of our vacation, I say not, we do DTD the first day anyhow, the walk to the store gets the muscles primed and the rewards of our own food and drink back at the resort priceless. We're ready for the whole vacation, no car, no car rental or cab. Wife likes the walk bettern than me.

What about bikes? Are there bikes anywhere that are available to rent? I could ride down to 192 and go to the Publix that is there? Do you know if that is something that sound feasible?

From what I have read, it sounds like Goodings is a little more expensive, plus I wouldn't mind being able to go for a bike ride down 192, which has its nice, wide sidewalk.

The grocery delivery services, like www.gardengrocer.com will deliver alcohol as part of a larger grocery order, even though it isn't listed on their website.

I used DME in October and had groceries delivered by wegoshop. They charge a flat fee for delivery based on the $$ value of your order and I added in a tip. They will deliver beer and or wine and since they shop at major chain stores the selection was great as was the price. My groceries (including the beer!) were waiting for me at bell services when I arrived at AKL and the perishables were kept cool.

If you want to shop at Goodings yourself I would take the WDW bus to DTD, walk to goodings and take a cab back with your items. Several of the resorts do rent bicycles but I am pretty sure you cant' take them out of the resort.

None of the bikes can be taken off property, and I wouldn't want to be riding a bike down 192--through the construction area especially--to get to Publix.

We've found the wine and beer prices at WDW shops to be not terrible, and you can have the rest delivered. Heck, carry a bottle of wine or two in your carry on's from home, we've done that as well.

Um, they're called sidewalks for a reason :) "Under Florida law, a bicycle is considered a vehicle, and is entitled to share the road with cars, trucks and other vehicles. Therefore, those wishing to operate a bicycle should become familiar with state traffic laws that apply to bicycles."
To the best of my knowledge, vehicles are not permitted on sidewalks.

This is true. Also, I don't believe that the sidewalk continues all the way to Publix, and furthermore there's a large construction job happening between Black Lake Road and Publix, and I wouldn't wnat to be on a bike in that narrow stretch of roadway.

We went to Hess gas station for beer.
Get off at PI and it is directly across the street.
