We got off last week just for the purpose of finding cough medicine (which we did, in back of a tourist shop) ....it seemed somewhat dirty as you walked around...we did get off very early so there wasn't many people around.

Has anyone ever had a bad experience of any kind there?

Nope, love Nassau. The people are friendly, if sometimes a little enthusiastic to sell you something. The water is warm and beautiful. Great local food and beer. Have enjoyed all the excursions we have done there from making chocolates, visiting Ardastra Gardens, going to Blue Lagoon, and hanging out at the Colonial Hilton (which sadly has closed).

I think Nassau has a bad reputation. It’s like being in New York or any major city. Are some of the people selling stuff a bit aggressive, especially in the Straw Market? Yes. Are the cab drivers all trying to sell you their tour or have you use their car? Sure. They are just trying to make a living. Their economy is based on tourism. Like any other city, pay attention to your surroundings. Don’t flash a lot of cash. Enjoy your time there and experience what the culture and history is about.

I agree. Often some of the ports are in lesser desirable areas (much like they are in the US). That can often cloud some people's opinions.

One cruise my wife and oldest daughter were ordered to stay in a jewelry store because the store next door had an armed robbery. Another cruise my youngest daughter was in tears because the hair braiders kept pulling at her hair and we had to go back to the ship.
The final straw was a guy outside the gate who heard me call my oldest teen daughter by name and proceeded to whistle and call my daughter's name seemingly trying to draw me into a confrontation . So that's a no for us in Nassau. Here is what the State Department says.

Don't love it, don't hate it. Next time I'll get off and do some exploring and have some drinks but not going to break my back doing so.

Is there a way to go to the beach that doesn’t require the Disney excursion at Nassau? Never been there and wasn’t judging to pay like 75 per person to boat to a beach lol

Yes, Junkanoo Beach is walking distance from the ship and has restrooms, showers, beach rentals and food and drink.

We prefer Love Beach and the Nirvana bar. It's about 20 minutes from the port, so you will need a cab. Make sure and negotiate the price before you get in! All the amenities are there.

I don't recommend Cable or Cabbage as they have no public facilities.

The new Margaritaville resort offers day passes and is walking distance from the ship. They have a small water park, pools, and beach.

My DH was offered pot there once, but he's been offered pot in several ports. 🤷‍♀️ Apparently he has a marijuana face even though he doesn't use it.
Same. Three people tried to sell us drugs.

We were not happy with our plan to just wander around town and visit the distillery. Next time we stop there we will either stay on the ship or plan an excursion.

On a Nassau day, October 15, very few people disembarked. Truthfully, we considered it but the entry was under construction so it looked confusing. We decided to stay on board, along with the majority of the cruisers. LOL

I don't really care for just walking around, since most of the places are selling cheap souvenirs or are American chains. But Nassau has some great snorkeling and scuba diving excursions if you like those.

I live in San Diego and always tell people who stop at the port to get a cab/Uber out of the downtown San Diego area.
