I have a laptop in a zipped case with various cords and wires with it. Should I separate the wires in a ziplock bag, take the laptop out in its separate tray, what's the drill here? Also, where do you put your MBs? In a checked bag, carry-on, something else?

You will have to take the laptop out and put it in its own separate bin. The laptop is the only thing that needs to come out. Everything else can stay in the bag and does not need to be separated. TSA does not want you to remove chargers, phones, cameras or tablets from your bags.

I put my magic bands in my carry on because you will need them to get into your room, you will want them with you in case your checked luggage get mis-routed or lost. Magic bands can stay in your bag at security.

Thanks! Sadly I end up asking this every year.

All my chargers and cords are always in a large ziploc baggie.

DH organizes his cords and chargers; I don't. Either way works. Laptops come out; I put it in the bin with my 311 baggie and have never had a problem with that. Now if you're sent to the TSA Pre line, don't take out the laptop (or the 311 bags).

MBs can be carried on, no problem.

I often carry electronic and lab test equipment thru TSA. I get pulled aside every time to open up and explain what everything is. I've always wondered why the only item they want removed is a laptop. Not any other electronic or unusual equipment.

I think its because the battery and other components block the rest of the items in the bag from being seen. It's not so much that they are checking the laptop, but getting the laptop out of the way so they can see everything else.

Take the laptop out and place it in a separate tray.
Leave the cords and wires in the case.
I wear my Magic Band.

Check your boarding pass for TSA Pre-Check. You will not have to take your laptop out. I typically get it 50% of the time, even without paying for it.

Just printed our South West boarding passes and they both say TSA Pre. Do we go to a different line? What all does this mean for our security experience? Shoes?

There is a separate line for Pre Check, look for the sign that says TSA Pre or ask the agent at the end of the security line, they can tell you where to go.

Laptops and 311 liquid bags do NOT come out in the precheck line, leave everything in your bag. Leave your shoes on. The only thing I remove in the precheck line is a big coat (if I have one). I don't even remove my belt (unless it has a big buckle they will ask you not to).

There's a separate line.
You will not have to take off your shoes, belt etc.
You will also not have to take your laptop or liquids out.

You have a chance of getting pre-check even without being pre-check enrolled?

Yes.
My whole family got precheck on our way home from Hawaii and none of us are signed up.
My niece often gets precheck but does not want to go through the line alone so she still goes through the regular line.

Yes, I think they are giving it free to get people to sign up for it. I get it about 50% of the time. I assume they do some type of online check. Nice not to have to take out the laptop, take off shoes. Faster line also.

MBs should be in a carryon and easy to get as you will need them at your resort and God forbid the case they are in misses you plane and arrives late
