Getting from SSR to the Contemporary

We are staying at SSR in August for 3 nights, no parks.
Planning on doing some shopping at Downtown Disney and would also like to stop at the Contemporary to wander, look in shops and maybe grab a quick ride or 2 on the monorail.
What the best way for us to get from SSR to the CR? Will they let us drive in, or do I need to take a bus?

Can't speak for the driving aspect, but the two easy bus options are either to take the bus from SSR to MK and walk over to the Contemporary/BLT, or if you're at DTD you can take a bus straight to the Contemporary/BLT.

Probably stating the obvious to you but throwing it out there just in case.

Agree with previous poster about the bus options. As far as driving we have driven several times, we usually have dinner reservations over there but occasionally we just pop in and tell them we are shopping and they will allow you in. You can self park or do Valet, which now that it is a DVC resort should allow us to get free Valet Parking.

Our favorite way of getting to Magic Kingdom/Contemporary is to park at Wilderness Lodge and take the boat over. You can get a boat to either Magic Kingdom then walk over of get a boat that goes directly to the Contemporary.

Yes - although "DVC Member" will be printed on your parking permit, so I've had cases where they said they didn't need my card. (I offer it every time.)

It's expected that when BLT opens DVC members will get free valet parking at Contemporary/BLT as is the case at other DVC resorts that offer valet parking. Free valet parking does not cover tip so that's still OOP. Yes, just show your member card.

We were staying at OKW a few years ago and had dinner ressies at CR. We were used to bus transportation and allowed 30 minutes to get there. This time, however, we had rented a car. It took literally FIVE MINUTES to drive there.
How much time do you want to spend on your commute?

Given the limited parking at the CR/BLT and the potential problem with MK parkers, I wouldn't be surprised if free valet isn't restricted to folks staying at BLT, if it's offered at all. There's no guarantee of free valet - it won't be offered at VGC for instance.

if the resort is full - then they don't allow you park there. However not expecting that in August or Sept.

so drive over - if you are told you can't park then just go back to SSR and take either of the buses.
