We will be staying at AKV for a quick two-day trip next month and will not be doing the parks. We would like to visit a few of the resorts and will have a car, but I understand that we will not be allowed to park without a dining reservation. If we just want to explore a resort, what would be the best way to get there if we prefer not to use Disney buses? Boats are fine.

You could park at HS or Epcot and take the Slyliner to Riviera.
You could park at DS and take the boat to OKW and walk/boat to SSR.

In December 2021 (i.e. last month), we resort hopped several times with our car by simply using our Magic Bands to show that we were onsite Guests.

However, it does vary from hotel to hotel. Our past experience suggests certain resorts are much harder to car hop to, the Grand Floridian probably being the hardest.

If you’re flexible with the resorts you’re visiting, I would just take your car and see what happens. If you get to the gate, and you get turned away, try a different resort. :)

Park at TTC then you can use the monorail to go to Poly, Cont, GF. Get off at MK and boat to WL/FW. If you want to avoid the monorail you can park at TTC, walk to Poly and GF, then to MK, then to CR. While at MK you can boat to WL/FW

Park at HS and walk or boat to BC/YC/BWI
Then you can hop the Skyliner to Riviera, CBR, AoA and Pop

From DS you can walk to SSR, boat to OKW, FQ and POR

That sounds nice. More spontaneous than we are used to!

This is good to know!

Love these ideas! Do you know how long it would take to walk from TTC to Poly to GF to MK? We are big walkers and would love this idea. And of course, we would definitely take a boat to WL and FW. Those are our favorite places on property!

Maybe 30, 45 min. TTC to poly is quick, as is poly to GF. Maybe 10 min to each. I have not done the walk from GF to MK so not certain on that one. MK gates to CR is also about 10 min. Will take a little more to get from the GF path to the CR path, it’s all the way across the MK plaza. Though that’s where I’d likely stop to grab the WL boat. Right now you’ll have to go back to MK to get to CR. The WL to CR boat isn’t running. That would change if it is by the time you visit. You could boat to CR from WL then walk back to MK and ferry to TTC or boat to Poly and walk to TTC.
I believe Google maps can give you distances for the locations to use to calculate how long the walks would be also

People try to 'game' the parking fees by parking for free at a resort and then walking to a park. Disney has gotten wise to that and tries to prevent it. MK is an example of this for the 3 monorail resorts. Similarly for parks/resorts near Epcot & HS. During slower times, you may be allowed to park, but just depends on what each resort happens to allow. Taking Disney transportation is the best option in most cases.
