Getting from park to park

I know I saw somewhere about the time it took to get from park to park and now can't find it. Curious if it's unrelistic to do EMH at one park but spend the day at another park.

Thanks!
Jessica

It's not unrealistic at all. We rarely spend all day in one park, and hop around all the time. I love having the freedom to spend the morning in AK and evening in MK if I want to. The longest it has every took us from one park to another was a little under 1 hour and that is with waiting for buses, too. And heck as hot as it is and as tired as my feet get it was a welcomed rest.

Unrealistic? No. Will it save you any time? Depends.

Now keep in mind to get from your last ride at one park to your first ride at the next involves about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

From that you can probably very quickly infer that it's a great thing for those that hit emh, stay until lunch, then go back to the hotel and nap or eat lunch out of the parks and then head out for another park. For those that plan to go to a morning emh and then transfer directly to another park, the time gained by going to emh is reduced to about 1/2 hour at best and lost or more than lost entirely at worst

Because we go at times where the parks aren't open late anyway and the kids won't nap. We find it better for us to save the hopper fee, sleep in, and go to the non-emh parks. Others who go in the summer, when the afternoon is best spent napping or swimming and the parks open late, going to emh, then using a hopper to go to another park can be a great strategy.

That makes a lot of sense...since we are going during Christmas and the parks are open late we probably will take afternoon breaks (although i don't know about swimming in dec..even in florida :rotfl2: ) Maybe we would be better off skipping EMH in the am since it's mostly MK while we are there anyway and concentrate on a park that will be less busy without EMH...

Thanks for everyone's help...

I swear by EMH & park hopping. I will get to the morning EMH park early, get in as many attractions as possible (usually with little to no wait during the first hour or two, then will leave that park around lunch time (or just after lunch if I dine in that park). I head back to my resort for a swim and a break, and it gives me the second wind I need to go to a different park later that day. For me, this way it's not too much of an overload of one park in one day.

I'm another that, when I can get my butt up out of bed, and find the "EMH-park early, then skip to another park" technique to be very effective, mostly at MK and MGM. At the MK it's the best to go from there to Epcot, since it's just a nice monorail ride and they tend to run more quickly than the busses.

I was just having this conversation with a close friend of mine. She and I visited WDW seperately last October and couldn't have had a different experience. She and her husband said it was too hot, too busy, and they didn't spend many days in the parks because of it. I had the opposite time - it was hot, but at mid-day when it was worst we found something indoors to do, or took a long lunch in the cool air conditioning.

The biggest difference was our experience in the lines. They arrived every day at 10:30 or 11 with the mass of other late sleepers. By that time, I've seen half the park and am in the back sections, where it's still relatively empty while the mass of people just coming in are just experiencing their first attractions at the front of the park.

If you can manage to get up early enough, you can see the major attractions in the MK (Buzz, Space, Fantasyland dark rides, Haunted Mansion, Splash, Jungle Cruise, Pirates) before 11am, just in time to head out as the throngs of people who planned on that day at the MK because of EMH but didn't get up early enough and came anyway, are arriving. Then have a casual lunch somewhere - the counter service at the Contemporary and the GF isn't bad, or you could opt for a more extravagant sit-down lunch, and then head off for the afternoon at another park.

That works very well for us. If you have younger kids, then going back to the resort for a rest can be very beneficial, but with teens/adults we don't find it necessary if we take a long rest around lunch while everyone else is running around in the hottest part of the day doing the attractions we already have done. :)

I totally agree, the park hopper is such a great option. I have even visited all four in one day, so much fun! :thumbsup2

We generally go to the morning EMH (we get up early anyway) and about 11 we head to a different park. From MK we generally hop to Epcot (which is DH's favorite so as far as he is concerned we could spend part of everyday there). From Epcot we generally hop to MK or MGM. From MGM we hop to Epcot, usually on the boat. From AK we generally head back to the hotel for a break and head out from there. Since AK is not open late we generally don't hop to AK athough we will when we are at WDW in November.
