We will be in HS on the day of our HDDR ADR. What is the best way to get there and how long do it take? We have never done HDDR before. Our ADR it third show 8:15. Any help would be great. TIA!

Bus to Fort Wilderness campgrounds. Shouldn't take over 15-20 minutes once you're on the bus.

Your best bet is probably catching a cab over from Boardwalk or one of the other hotels. Otherwise, you can hop on a bus from HS to Ft. Wilderness OR take a bus to MK and take the ferry over to Ft. Wilderness.

From what I've read, the biggest complaint about HDDR is what a pain it is to get to. So, plan like, an hour at least I would say....

You have to bus from DHS to Fort Wilderness. So you need to wait for the bus here which could be right away or up to a 20 minute wait, then once at Fort Wilderness you need to transfer to an internal Fort Wilderness bus to take you to Pioneer Hall, the home of the HDDR. Pioneer Hall is at the exact opposite end of the campground, a little over a mile as the crow flies. I would budget another 15 to 20 minutes for this.
The good news is that after the 8:15 show, they have busses outside of Pioneer Hall to take you back to your resort. One bus takes several resorts, so it could be a bit long if you are a later stop.
But in my opinion HDDR is worth the effort
Enjoy

If you take a taxi from either DHS ( there are taxi stands near the buses) or an Epcot resort, you would only get as far as the campground entrance. You would then need to take the internal bus to Pioneer Hall. Same thing if you take the Ft Wilderness bus from the park.

Or you could take a bus to MK or Wilderness Lodge, and take the resort launch to Ft. Wilderness. The dock is just a few minutes walk to Pioneer Hall.

I'd allow 1-1.5 hours for transportation.

Do park buses not go to Pioneer Hall anymore? The only time I've ever been to HDDR, we rode in from a park to Pioneer Hall, without having to transfer to the internal system. I can't remember which park we came in from, though...might have been the TTC, now that I think about it. Is that not the case anymore?

Another option for getting to Pioneer Hall:

Bus to MK, CR, or WL. Then a boat to the Fort (the pier is near Pioneer Hall).

I seem to recall a walking path from Ft Wilderness to the Wilderness Lodge, so if you felt like a 15 min stroll you could bus to the WL and walk over.

However you decide to get there, from DHS to Pioneer Hall itself, make sure to plan for the bolded statement above.

It may take a little longer, but I would take the bus from DHS to the Wilderness Lodge, and then take the boat ride from WL to Ft. Wilderness. The boat dock is right next to the Pioneer Hall area where HDDR is held.

Enjoy - it's a great time that everyone should do once (or in my case, several times!)

most likely the bus from HS would be the same bus as FW if you decide to go to Wilderness Lodge as they often share buses. not sure going to WL and boating over will be any faster than busing to FW and the internal bus. just remember that the internal bus will stop at camping loops that others will be getting off at unless you get very lucky and you are only ones on bus. and if you do take a taxi, you will still need to take the internal bus. as another poster said I would allow 1.5 hours to get there

Trust me, it's worth it. The all you can drink Sangria also helps with any commute stress incurred on the trip over. :drinking::woohoo:

Wow. That is a lot of commute time. I am not sure if it will be worth it now.

This is basically the average time many people use to commute to resorts for ADRs since you usually want to check in 15 minutes before at most places. Going from any one place to another via bus, you need to at least include 20 minutes wait time in case you just missed a bus.

Although I have never had any issues with the internal buses at FW, I would probably bus from DHS to WL and then walk or bus to FW. (Although,if you are going when it gets dark earlier, then I would take the bus from WL to FW as the path is not lit.)

Thanks for the help. One more question. Will we have to take a bus to a park such as magic kingdom and then grab another bus back to our hotel after the show? Worried about the lateness and having to rush.

After the show they will have buses waiting to take guests back to their resorts. These buses will stop at more than one resort, but it will still be faster than taking the boat to MK and then catching your resort bus.
