Getting back to AKL after Illuminations Cruise

We're a family of 4 (2 teenage boys) staying at AKL in late March. I'm leaning towards renting a car.

We're doing an Illuminations Cruise leaving from the Boardwalk dock. We'll be spending at least a few hours at Epcot before that for dinner. We might spend more of the day there as well. What's our best plan to get back to AKL after the cruise? Drive or Disney transportation? Advice anyone?

Since you have a car, the simplest thing to do is drive to the Boardwalk and park there. Then you can walk (5-10 minutes) to the International Gateway entrance to EPCOT for your dinner reservation. The IG is the entrance to World Showcase, and will be convenient for getting to dinner in one of the WS arestaurants. After your cruise, you can enjoy the Boardwalk for a while before you drive back to the AKL.

There are other options if you do not want to drive, but none are as convenient as driving and parking at the Boardwalk.
