Getting around the World with broken ankle

I hurt my ankle the morning I was leaving for Disapolooza. Thought it was just a bad sprain. Wrapped it upand did a regular cycle of walk walk walk walk followed by rest and elevation. Didn't go to doctor until week later. X-ray showed displaced fibula fracture. Needless to say, I've been feeling stupid for walking all over the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter with an untreated broken ankle.

My question is what's the best way to get around with injury? Are the parks crutch friendly? Or is it better to rent a scooter?

I would recommend renting a scooter. Crutches in large, crowded theme park could not possibly be pleasant. :sad2:

It's a pretty individual question, but I can say I got around on crutches many years ago before scooters were an option. By halfway through the day, I was totally exhausted from traveling on crutches and my ankle was screaming from being pointed down at the ground all day.

You CAN do crutches, but a scooter would probably provide a much more pleasant touring experience. Just bring along your crutches for moments when your scooter can't fit or when you're transferring to chairs or rides.

Good luck healing and having fun!

Opt for the scooter. I had the same injury a few years ago (also walked on it) and was on crutches for weeks. I don't think I would have been a very good travel partner visiting the parks on them. It took me a while to master them as well. I would look into the scooter option. Good luck and take it easy!

Sorry about your injury...I would go for a scooter as well.

My cousin and his family were just in the world and facing a similar predicament. He is a paraplegic in a custom wheel chair and very independent minded. She is a mom on the go, however about 6 weeks before their trip, she broke her foot. She used a "knee walker". I had never seen one, but picture a traditional walker with a knee rest. This allowed her to scoot with one food while the other was elevated. Less tiring than crutches, but more compact than a scooter.

And their kids.... quadruplets! Celebrating their 10th birthday with thier first trip to see Mickey.

Scooter! I am on crutches right now (foot surgery) and my arms are hurting more than my foot for going around on crutches. And I am not doing anywhere near Disney type moving around. Just around the house, or maybe out to eat. Even then I am getting dropped off curbside.
