Getting adult sized portions of kids meals

We're trying to plan a family trip as well, and son, and mom, are on the picky side. We want to spend a lot of time at Animal Kingdom, but the food there is a bit too adventurous for son and mom's taste. Dad will love it, though. Son is 19, though, so he will not be considered a child. But there are things on the kids menu that both he and mom will like. Can son and mom order adult size of kids meals while dad enjoys his exotic dishes? This may come up at other restaurants where maybe mom will try something, but there will be nothing on the adult menu for son. I don't want son to miss out on the atmosphere of the TS restaurants, though, especially since he loves Food Network. He will be thrilled to go to Kouzzina, although I don't think I could get him to try the adult menu!

We'll be doing the meal plan, so don't worry about cost considerations.

I can't imagine this would be a problem. We did that at our restaurant all the time when I worked in the Norwegian restaurant in Epcot. It sometimes happened that a kid wanted something on the regular menu as well, and they were able to get that kid sized :thumbsup2

Absolutely at a TS restaurant. DS prefers things on the kids menu and gets them often in adult size portions. The biggest bowl of mac & cheese I ever saw was at 50's PTC.

Another option is to order kids stuff a la carte if you're not on the dining plan. Our server explained that everything in the kids meal is priced separately, so you can order two entrees (like 12 chicken nuggets or two burgers), plus one order of fries rather than a salad, a burger and fries pus a drink times two!

If you're on the dining plan, it might be difficult to work that out at counter service locations, since those are a full meal. But talk to the CM and see what they can do for you.

California Grill is the only one who didnt let us get a kids meal because they had similar things on the Adult menu they just wanted the extra money for the meal. Also, Kouzzina has a nice steak on the menu if your DS likes steak. It's not too out of the normal when it comes to traditional food.

The closest my son comes to steak is a baked potato. He'll eat grilled chicken, though, so I'm going to do some talking to the CMs.

Now, about that big bowl of mac and cheese. That sounds right up Mom's alley!

Also, if you do end up at a restaurant where nothing tempts you, it's always worth a shot to talk to your server. Like in the restaurant I worked in, there were plenty of parents that would ask for alternatives for their picky kids. And the chef would be able to make a grilled cheese or something. Or for breakfast they could make pancakes and waffles, even if it's not on the menu at the Norwegian restaurant.
