i have a 14 year old cat but remember when he was a baby.
First decide whether or not she/he will be an in door cat or outside cat. Cat's who live in doors most of their lives tend to live a lot longer then those who are out door cats.
Secondly, make sure you desinate a room that can be closed off w/ a door or something for the cat litter box. you will want to keep the kitten in that room for at least a few days to let him/her know where the cat litter box is.
Thirdly, you have to make a decision to either declaw or not. My grandma's cat was not declawed and ended up ruining the furniture (but fortunately her furniture was 50 years old already). Our cat is declawed and it doesn't seem to bother him. If you do decide to declaw only declaw the front.
We just feed our cat one kind of dry food and mostly the ones in the blue bag. we tend to keep him on the same food. Make sure you have some wet food. Our vet however said they tend to get fat on the dry then on the wet but our cat is not fat. Oh talking about food, make sure you see an eating pattern. my grandma's cat would eat all the food at once and then throw up.
make sure nobody really picks up the cat if the cat doesn't want to be picked up. if everybody is nice to the cat from the start the cat will like every one. i learned the hard way and our cat does not favor me. lol.
