Getting a good viewing spot for Star Wars fireworks?

We are going to try to watch the Star Wars fireworks and new World of Animation show at HS for the first time this July. To those that have been, how difficult is it to get a good viewing spot and how far in advance of the shows does it fill up? I know people start gathering to see Happily Ever After long before the show begins. I have two toddlers who don't really have the patience for that kind of wait. I'm thinking the Star Wars dessert party may be worth it for us (especially since it includes alcohol, unlike the MK parties). Thoughts? Is it worth paying the extra money or could we show up right before it begins and still get a decent viewing spot?

Don't know about the World of Animation show, but for Star Wars, you can walk up 5 minutes ahead and still get a pretty good spot. If you want to be in the very front, you should be 30-45 minutes early, but you definitely don't need to. It's nothing like HEA, as far as the crowd goes.

We saw SWaGS without the dessert party the first year it started. I'm 5'2" and I had my DS (then 8 years old) with me. We waited about 30 - 45 minutes for it to start. I had read suggestions on this board to be in front of the "towers", so we found a good spot and everyone sat while waiting. However, when everyone stood up, we realized neither of us could really see anything except for the fireworks and some of the projections on the top because we are both so short. The second time we saw it, we did the dessert party and it was MUCH better. We sat on the "stage" in the very front and could see everything including the pre-show (which is now World of Animation). My only word of caution is, it's very loud in that area. If your toddlers are sensitive to noise, I would just take that into account. Otherwise, especially now that they have added seating, reserved tables plus the Kylo meet and greet to the party, I think it's money well spent. We are doing it again when we go in July.

Are you seated at tables during the show? Or is it just that you have an assigned table during the dessert party? I read somewhere that the tables don't have chairs. Is this still the case?

DHS FIREWORKS Viewing (Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular)
The stage (#3) is now removed from the viewing area well before the fireworks begin.

best spot is behind the taped walkway. You go into the main courtyard you will see tape on the ground and aa CM there patrolling telling people to keep moving. If you stand behind the tape you will have a buffer of emptiness in front of you and have a great view. As long as you can see the Chinese theater and the 2 projections screens on either side you are good

We have been able to get a place to stand near the projection towers. That gets you back far enough to see all the projections well and take in the scope of it all. But still close enough to see well.
Others like to be closer or further away.
