So, technically it isn't me that is getting new gear -- it is being ordered for me to use as part of my job. I had earlier been told I should order a camera, then told not to. Then my supervisor came in, told me we had money to spend and she wanted a list ASAP of things I needed -- including a camera.
In addition to Adobe CS5 and some other software, I priced a D7000 with the kit lens. When I took it to her, she said she wanted me to get something that would last for a good long time (we're upgrading from a D50 bought when that camera was so new that Adobe still hadn't updated Camera Raw to handle its files). So, I also priced a D3s and a D700 (I tried to sell her on the idea of the D3s because it is built like a tank and should last quite a few years, but it was just too expensive). I think I actually would have had a shot at getting the D700, but they wanted me to get something that will shoot video (curse Nikon's update schedule for being out of sync with my needs!), so I went back to the D7000, but I upgraded from the kit lens to Nikon's 16-85mm, added a fast 64GB SD card and an SB-700 Speedlight. So I'll have two Nikon Speedlights (the other is an SB-600) and will be able to use them for portraits with the Creative Lighting System.
I hope it comes before I go to Photoshop World at the end of this month -- in order to become proficient with a camera, I need to use it -- a lot. The fact that I can use it at Disney ... well, that just happens to be true! But the body-only D7000 was listed as backordered yesterday (but no the day before that) ...
Anyone else here going to Photoshop World in Orlando at the end of the month? If you're thinking you should, you're right! You'd love it.
