Next year we'll be heading down to the World with the extended family and we'll be using 2 rooms. I'll be booking at our home resort (AKV) at 11 months but will try to switch to OKW at the 7 month mark.

In your experience, how easy is it to get 2 rooms close together? What is the best way to request this? Use online check-in? Arrive as early as possible on check-in day?

Any help is much appreciated.

I made reservations at Kidani for us and my friend's family, I requested our villas to be next door to each other or very nearby. When we checked in they put us next door to each other! :) Just have it noted on both reservations that you would like to be near each other.

Just make sure you have the cast member make note on your reservations that you want the 2 rooms near each other. The will note the request but will not guarantee it. I'm sure they will do their best to accommodate you.

Have a great time. :goodvibes

I have requested 2 rooms together at OKW in the past. Not a problem at all. Note that in the past, there was no online check-in. So the only way to do it was to ask Member Services to put a note in the reservation. The Disney system seems to work very well. They do read the notes! :)

Also, online check-in is only available 10 days before check-in date. To ask MS to put a note, you can do that when you make the reservation (7 months out in your case). Gives you the peace of mind.

Oh, one more thing. Friendly customer service is Disney's bread and butter. So, asking MS to put a note, they are VERY HAPPY to assist. (They typically will tell you "a note is not a guarantee" but at check-in, the cast member will really try to help.)

On the other hand, DVC still has a lot of catch up to do for online services. Just reading that people are experiencing problems with online check-in.

I do this almost every time that we go to Disney. We are always right next to each other - that being said there are no guarantees. However, they really do try to please. I remember one time I was a little frustrated at check-in (I don't even remember the issue) but I commented "I'm not feeling the magic" and the person behind the desk smiled and chuckled and solved the issue.

We had two studio's at BWV. I requested that they be as close as possible when I made the reservation. We were 3 doors away from each other and it worked out really great. Rooms were just perfect and our guests were close enough for socializing, but far enough for privacy for all of us. Just request close to each other upon booking. ;)

3 doors away sounds great. I'm not sure my wife would want side by side rooms anyway. ;)

Studios rarely can be side by side to each other, but 2BRs can. So if you really just want the family nearby you can ask for the same trail. That will put them in the general area.

we just got back from BWV and requested 2 standard studios same fl and close.
We got 5th fl and side by side studios 5079 and 5081. The studios each had a one bedroom on their other side making them 2 bedroom lock-offs. :goodvibes

this summer we had 3 rooms (1 2BR and 2 studios) at BWV. They were all reasonably close to each other, and, more important, on the same floor.

We had 3 - 2 bedrooms at BWV and they were all together. I was very impressed.
Not quite so lucky at OKW. We had a GV and a 2 bedroom but they were several buildings away from each other.
In both cases I asked when making the reservation at 11 months.
In a couple of weeks I will be requesting a GV, a 2 bedroom, a 1 bedroom and a studio near each other at BWV. Since they will all be BW view rooms, I think it will be impossible to meet this request but I will ask anyway and take what we get.

We've done this a number of times and never been disappointed. Our requests is they be near each other. Worst case was 5 rooms at BCV with 1 down the other hall from the others, maybe 150 feet or so apart on the same floor and that was acceptable.

You could ask for the grand villa and two 2 bedrooms and that would at least get your 1 bedroom and studio together(BWV being mostly lockoffs with just a few dedicated 1 beds and studios). I know - they would have same keys and charging on the same account - maybe that is too much of a problem?

Are you staying in studios? If so, they aren't likely to be side by side anyway. If you are switching to OKW, you will likely be in the same building, but might be either above or below each other or on the other end of the building, since studios are on the outside ends of the OKW buildings.

I would love to book 2-2 bedrooms because it would be less points but I want to have the flexibility to cancel one family's room if need be. The last 2 family trips we have had pregnancies force a cancelation (that is what happens when reservations are 11 months out and babies only take 9 months!). I am already using so many points and I do not want to end up with 3 people in a 2 bedroom because I could not get a 1 bedroom after canceling a 2 bedroom.

We're getting a studio and a 2BR.

too funny...we were in these exact same studios from 10/24-10/29....had requested they be close together and a high floor

We're planning a 14-person trip in 2012 and planning on (2) 2BR's at OKW. I want to book the HH area and I *really* want building 12. I plan to request that our units be one above the other, hence my desire for the 2-story building #12. If we know who is above us, we will know who is stomping around:lmao:.

I was thinking that since it will be two different reservations, I will request "Building 12, low floor" on one and "Building 12, high floor on the other". I won't be disappointed in any of the HH area buildings so I figure that requesting a specific one won't be too big of a deal. If they can't accommodate us, then that's fine. Even if we aren't in the same building, we will all be in the HH area so it is all good:hippie:.

I stayed at OKW with my DS family - I put the request in at the time of our reservation. We ended up in Building 27 at OKW, it was perfect. Our rooms were right next to theirs - since my sister is the only coffee drinker - she would send one of kids over in the morning for a freshly brewed cup. LOL
