Getaway USA

I caught the replay on Sunday.
Was great seeing the footage but hardly an ultimate guide. The first thing they said was you need at least a 4 day pass to see it all and then they went to every park wearing the same clothes, clearly rushed through filming the whole thing in one day and left a lot out. And only showing one, expensive, hotel when they could have mentioned the different budget levels available. Also saying that the best way to get around was by hiring a car, what about all the free transport like the buses, boats and monorail. :confused3
But like I said, was good at least seeing footage of it

Yes, I was pretty disappointed in what they showed, but also in the information given. Or rather lack of information given.

They only showed one hotel - the Polynesian (and even only then, the only film they ran was inside the lobby) and mentioned rooms started from $358 a night - no mention of the fact it was a luxury resort and most are way cheaper. They should have explained there are different categories of hotels and campgrounds, and given a price for each bandwidth. No mention at all of the value resorts.

They said that visitors will definitely need a rental car and made no mention of the resort transport or of the Magical Express.

They only showed the price of a 4 day pass - they could have made it more appealing by explaining a 4 days pass is $232 BUT A 10 DAY PASS IS $262!!! (yes I know that's without the hopper option but still)

Their only mention of food was something to do with junk food, I didn't quite catch the context.

They made no mention of price packaging.

No mention of restaurants, DTD, water parks, Disney Quest, Wide World of Sports complex, golfing, water sports etc etc.

I happened to have a friend with me when they showed it. He knows we're going back again for the third year running for a 10 day stay, and I could see by the look on on his face he was "doing the maths" in his head. He came right out with it and asked me how on earth we could afford to keep going there. He's thinking: 10 nights at $358 a night for two rooms is over $7000, and if a 4 day pass is $232 then a 10 day pass must be about $550 each for the 5 of you that's $2750, plus food at, say $50 per day per person, that another $2500, plus spending money, plus a rental car, plus transfers from the airport, plus the airfares....I had to explain to him that you can do WDW very affordably if you plan it right. The costs they were quoting on Getaway were pretty scary.

Overall, I don't think they did a very good job of promoting it properly.

Illuminations looked ok though.
