get out the fork -- they're done

I have to respectfully disagree about the Yankees being "baseball's most legendary team." Just winning does not make a legend! You've obviously not spent a lot of time at Fenway Park!
Even though these guys may be our "heroes" they still run to where the biggest paycheck is. The Yankees have won so many years because they have the biggest paychecks. Just a fact. We were heartbroken when Nomar left, but, hey he went for the bucks, wouldn't re-sign for the Red Sox because the paycheck wasn't big enough. Baseball is a fun thing DH and DS and I enjoy all summer (even the angst!) but we're always prepared for the inevitable disappointment at the end. It's what being from Boston is all about!
No Bruins this year!

Yes...let's agree to disagree. I actually think the Boston Red Sox fans are some of the greatest fans ever. I never hate opposing teams or their fans...I love the competition, I love to watch great baseball....I really love to sit in the stands on a warm summer day and watch the greatest American sport. But I still think that the Yankee organization is great among sports franchises in its devoted fans, amazing history and legendary players. It is sad, however, when a favorite player is booted off the team or somebody leaves for the paycheck ::yes::

But just for the record...those guys aren't my heros :D . The real heros are the guys fighting over in Iraq, Afghanistan and all over the world. As well as the cops and firefighters. My favorite Yankees provide lots of great entertainment, are gifted athletes and I feel like I know them...but they aren't personally my heros. Well...maybe Gehrig or Mantle or Munson ;) .

Life is hard for the BoSox fans. Always has been, probably always will be. But, we're used to it. You know that saying about adversity being the crucible of character? Yep, that's us...lots of character. Thank heaven we have the Pats!!! It's beginning to look like just 'football' now.:(

I can say thing, if the Yanks were down 2-0 last night, there would never be the fan support I saw for the Sox last night at Fenway Park. Yes, I was there:sad:

You're absolutely wrong here. Fans of both the Yankees and the Red Sox are among the greatest in sports. The Yanks have been down 0-2 twice during this latest run ('96-present. The Torre years) and fan support never wavered. They were 0-2 in the '96 World Series against Atlanta (and BTW, they lost the first two games at home!) and then in the LDS against Oakland in '01.

Sox fans are supportive of their team as well as Yankees' fans. It isn't a contest.

DVCPAT,

IIRC, the Francona signing occurred before they signed Schilling. Francona was used to woo Shilling to Boston, not the other way around. IMO, this was a mistake to begin with. After the insulting way they treated Manny Ramirez by putting him on waivers prior to the start of the season so any team could pick him up, they should have signed Mike Hargrove as the manager. Grover had been Manny's manager on all those great Cleveland Indians' teams and was someone whom Manny respected. I think he would have been very good for the Sox. JMO.

hmmmmmm....this was buried on page 4 or 5... I wonder why? ;) :teeth:

Put those forks and brooms away Yankee fans....we still have a pulse :)

Oh jennyanydots....could you pass the fork please? ;) :teeth:

:jumping1:

sorry...I couldn't resist.

I do believe as they say "The Fat Lady Has Sung". Way to Go SOX!!!
They had a GREAT game last night.

As a Red Sox fan, I had a GREAT time reading this thread this morning!!! Thanks for the :teeth: !!! :thewave:

Congrats to the Sox fans. Must say I'm disappointed, of course.

Now I have to cheer for the national league in the WS.

Anyone seen my fork? Oh yeah, I PUT IT AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :teeth:

Too, too funny to read this this morning. As a lifelong Indians fan, I couldn't help relating to our long-suffering Boston friends. A good day for the underdogs! Now go get the Series!

I'm still in shock, I thought the Sox were done after the third loss in a row, but how wrong was I? Awesome! :Pinkbounc

This thread was fun to read this morning. :teeth:

Oh, and I wouldn't expect the OP to show back up.

After seeing this post after game 3, I couldn't bare to read what the OP had said.

My how things have changed :)

Thanks for whoever brought this thread back :teeth:

AprilGail2, you're 100% correct! This is exactly why the wildcard teams should not be in the playoffs! Going and re-writing the history books. Hmph, the nerve of them!

Although I had them left for dead, I make a solemn promise to never doubt the strength of The Nation ever again!!!!::yes::

It would be interesting to see a Texas vs. Massachusetts series. Wonder if it would be foretelling.:D

A BoSox fan this year!

Felt so bad for them after their third straight loss-couldn'teven watch the fourth game and ended up missing the good stuff...prayed to the heavens to just let them win one, then to win one more...and then they go and take the whole thing!!!

Congratulations Red Sox...thanks for some AMAZING baseball!:)

There was a quote in one of the NY papers from a 19 year-old from Long Island. He said he felt like a 6 year-old who had just witnessed his dog getting run over.

To all Yankee fans: I feel for you. I know how it feels. I felt it in 1967, 1975, 1978, 1986 (the worst), 1999 and 2003.

I am not sure anyone who has not lived through at least some of the events above can know how we feel. It was my happiest sports moment ever. It was Fisk's home run and Flutie's pass and Eruzione's goal and then some. It was truly the stuff dreams are made of.

I still can't watch the B***ner replay, but now I can at least drop the "bleeping" from Bucky Dent's name.

After all, he sent us some luck with that first pitch!
