This year we decided to rent a home just outside of Disney, my B.I.L is renting a car for our holiday, but on one specific day, he and my son are going to Space Kennedy Center and my sis, daughter and I are going to Animal Kingdom, so how to get there? Can we take a cab? if so do they go into the parks? Or do I get a cab, go to DTD and from there take the bus? we've always stayed on site, but it is impossible this year, and this was our option or wait until next year....so we opted for the home and go this year ha! ha!
Thanks for all your suggestions!

Yes, cabs can go to the parks. The DTD buses, however, do not go to the parks only resorts.

The Space Center is only an hour drive, so if they drop you off at 8:30 they can still get there well before 10 which will still give them a full day. That way you only have to get a cab to go home.

Be aware that the cabs will charge you the $14 entrance fee on top of the distance cab fare IF you have them take you right to either of the parks. We had this happen when going to AK from Universal one year. The driver said the parks charge them each time they enter, so it has to be passed onto the passengers. It would probably be cheaper for you to get dropped off at either Downtown Disney or maybe the Ticket and Transportation Center, then take a WDW bus from there.

Thanks guys! I haven't thought about the charge for the entrance, only makes sense.

I could do that, take a cab to the closest resort and then take the bus, because my bil and son are leaving around 7:30 am, that would be too early to go to AK right?

If it were me I would make a breakfast ADR at Boma and have him either eat with you or drop you off at the AKL, after breakfast jump on the bus to AK.

Have you considered renting a car just for that one day? There's a couple of different rental car agencies on property (Car Care Center has one I believe and so does the Dolphin). There's also an Enterprise place at the Marriott on World Center Drive (not World Drive at Disney World - this is off International Drive). When we had to rent a car in an emergency, the Enterprise place was only $30 for 24 hours and they even picked us up (we were in a hotel relatively close by). You might want to consider doing that instead of the cabs which probably would be more expensive.

Not trying to be snippy or have flames thrown. I honestly don't know the answer to my own question, but isn't Disney transportation for Disney resort guests? I have never had this problem since I always stay onsite. I would think if you are staying offsite you need to take a cab or rent a car.

But if she does this and parks at the park she'll still get the $14 fee to park and now the total is almost $45 just to rent a car for one day.
But I don't have a clue how much it is to take a cab to the park then return to the rental home.
Wouldn't it be nice for the cab companies to have a website to tell you how much the fare is from one place to another. =) But that would be too easy for them! =)

I guess it depends on when they open the day you are planning to go. If they open at 8, I'd totally go that early! They have a cute opening show =) And you'd be right at rope drop.

Parks only open at 8:00 for extra magic morning hours. Resort guests only.

Oops I'm a dork! I always forget that AK opens later than most other parks. Sorry about that =)

I think the best way is to have my BIL drive us there, 14$ for the entrance is cheaper then taking a cab, then all we have to do is take a bus to DTD and give ourselves a place and time for pick up... ha! Wayyyyyy easier.

Yes, Disney transportation is for Disney Resort guests...however, Disney includes everything on their property as being part of "Disney Resort" so anyone attending the parks, staying at their hotels, shopping at their stores, or using any other amenity on Disney Florida property are "Disney Resort Guests"

From what I have read, if you are dropping people off at the park you don't not have the pay the $14 parking/entrance fee. You tell the parking booth attendant you are dropping off and they direct you to the right area. So if BIL drops you off, he would not have to pay that amount. Hopefully someone can verify this. I found the info by searching for "park drop off" but I don't know how to link to a thread.

No the Transportation System is for all Walt Disney World Resort guests.

The WDW resort is the entire 45 square miles that incorporate WDW not just the hotels.

This became a "hot" topic on the transportation board. While you may find wording on the WDW website saying transportation is complementary to on site guest it doesn't say its complementary for ONLY on site guests.

Also to the OP traveling to and from DTD you will have to transfer at a resort. Since there is no direct transportation from DTD to the parks.

And yes cabs and other non personal vehicles have to pay everytime they go to the parking lot. Its almost alway easier yo u get picked up at a resort.

If they stay long at Kennedy Space center I would head to AKL and hang out there.

Unfortunately, you were taken advantage of. Orlando cabs are not supposed to pass any parking lot fees on, for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which: the only have to pay once per day just like everyone else, no matter how many fares they take to the parks.

Are you using your own personal experience parking your private car or do have actual knowledge?

I was in charge of a bus trip last Feb and read the sign that listed parking fees. I don't remember exactly the text on the sign but I do know that commercial vehicles like ours would have to pay each time we entered the lot.

This rule may also apply to cabs.
