I have never posted on this thread but I really need to ask a question. I LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE Disney World, but I get a lot of flack of people at work about going down there because of the, well I will put it nicely and say the gay and lesibian community. I have only been twice and once on a Disney cruise, but I would move to Florida in a heartbeat just to be closer to the mouse.:rotfl: But they really do give me flack. What gives with this?

I don't understand the problem you are having at work. Are the people at work giving you a hard time because they think only Gay and Lesbian people go to Disney World?

Well sort of. They just can't understand why I love to go down there and take my family with the homosexual population down there. I just don't get it.:confused3

They do know there are homosexuals everywhere right? :confused3

Q: Why are there so many gays at Disney World?

A: Who else is going to make all that Magic for $5.35 an hour?:rotfl2:

It's only 3-5% of the population. That's just under 1 in 20 people.

Interestingly enough, Atlanta has the 3rd highest gay population in the country, with about 12.8% of the population being gay.

So Atlanta has more than twice the number of gay people as the Orlando/Kissimmee area. Ask your co-workers if they ever take their families there ;)

I am not gay, my family is not gay.. my friends who love Disney are not gay, well some of them are, but not all.

Are we saying that every kid that grew up with Mickey Mouse Club will be gay because they like Disney?? The people at work need a reality check, people from all walks love Disney.. not just gays.. they do too.. so do Asians, Brits, Brazilians, just to name a few countries... people from all walks of life..

Tell them to smarten up and you will go to Disney when you feel like it, no matter who else is there.

Gays probably are more active in Disney. I wonder how many people have happy childhoods. I have heard repeatedly from people organizing high school reunions that convincing people to attend is a hardsell because growing up was a part of their lives they don't care to remember. Growing up gay would be even more cause for pain. Disney gives adults a chance to believe that it is never too late to have a happy childhood.

Sounds to me like you need to find a new place to work.

What happens if they start giving you flack for going to a place they feel has an over-abundance of black people or jewish people. Bigotry becomes a little more obvious when you look at it from that perspective and that's the way homophobia needs to be viewed as well.

I don't think Mike realizes the FL minimum wage just went up to $6.35, so Disney actually starts at a whopping $6.80 now!!

Sorry, It's an OLD joke!

"I dont know much, cuz I dont get out much!" :lmao:

Heck, I'm at Disney, and still making $4.80 an hour! Honestly!

Yeah, but you probably make twice what I do after tips ;)

But Conck... you are getting compensated for making that very special magic for peeps who are entitled to concierge...in happiness right and the minimum wage..

LOL

Gays are an easy target. Most people are reluctant to judge Blacks by the quality of their character anytime that character is less than desirable because being called the R word in this country will destroy careers, etc. thanks to the presumption of guilt. Jew-baiting is not just tolerated but incredibly fashinonable here in Lefty San Francisco to the point that the only time it's okay to defend Jews is when blue-eyed blonds or Germans are being bashed. Jews and gays are soft targets.

ggeeezzzz, what kind of place do you work at? these people do realize there are gay people in all areas of life??
doctors, dentists, cashiers, waiters waitresses, store clerks, store manager, engineers, hotel workers, government workers, nurses, police, firemen, plumbers, interior designers, landscapers, home builders,..............i suppose i could go on and on, but I won't :)
I have met the most wonderful people that work at Disney, I don't know and don't care if they were gay or straight, doesn't matter, and I don't see why it should matter to your co-worker.........and why it matters to them where you vacation:confused3

Easy answer....

Just ask them...."So avoid gay folks, where should I vacation?" :confused3

Frankly, your post offends me. If anyone ever approached me with such a notion I'd give them a piece of my mind...I wouldn't need to go to the community in question and tell them there are people who feel this way...

Your post did not convey outrage on your part...it almost sounds as you agree : " with the homosexual population down there."

Why did you really post here? What kind of responses did you expect to get?

exactly. Gay people are everywhere. The funny thing is some people have NO gay-dar at all and as a result, will fool themselves into thinking that very friendly and attentive waiter is straight, or the guy in the mens department just has an unusual sense of fashion. I realize I'm stereotyping a bit, but some people just have no clue.

It's because of people like your co-workers that I go to Disney hand in hand with my partner, anniversary button on our shirts, and top hats on our heads.

You can't avoid gay people and it's getting harder to avoid companies who support equal rights for LGBT people. Disney has been a pioneer in this area. In fact, the two men behind the music in the Little Mermaid were gay and Eisner...for all his faults, not only supported hiring them despite their sexuality, but when one of them was dying from HIV, he moved the entire production staff to New York to support him.
