Hi everyone,
Just curious as to what dog food you have found to suit your dog best as he got to the adult stage? My pup is almost a year old and we are starting to consider the switch to the adult dog food, but with the tons of brands out there it is a bit hard.
Right now he is on the Royal Canin large breed puppy food, which is mixed with a can of Merrick wet food a day. We haven't tried anything else but Pedigree, which caused him terrible stomach upsets. Royal Canin for the German Shepherds seems to be a bit expensive so I am hoping that any other GSD owners have had a good experience with a brand that was not too expensive but was great for the sensitive stomachs of the breed. Thanks!!!!!!

I tend to spoil my three. Innova or EVO. Also Timberwolf is a good brand. Also feed them some lean ground turkey. High in protein. Shepherds don't reach maturity until about 3 y/o so keep him well nourished.

And thanks for not asking which brand would prevent shedding....:rotfl:

We don't own a German Shepard, but we have a good friend who does. Hers is on a combination of IAMS dry kibble and some frozen wet stuff she buys at the grocery store. I've seen it in the freezer case near the frozen lasagnas at our local store.

:) The shedding is crazy, I am thinking of knitting a blanket with all that hair, but we're learning to deal with it.
Do you switch them up or stick with one brand for a period of time? I haven't tried turkey, but with dog bone cuts from the butcher he had more upset stomach.. I thought that the raw stuff was best, but he didn't agree.

Wow, I'll have to look at my store's freezer, never seen frozen wet dog food. Does he like it?

Best thing to do is get a undercoat brush. Looks like a minature lawn rake. It won't rid you of the hair, but it will cut down on it.

I initially had them on Nutro-Max, then switched to Timberwolf. Even a gradual transition resulted in upset stomachs and the "WHEW! Who let go" mega puppy farts. I then switched them over to Innova and they've had no problems.

We always used to feed Iams, but switched to Royal Canin for German Shepherds a couple of years ago! It's wonderful. There is so much less waste in the backyard. The dogs' coats are so much nicer. There is less shedding. They also seem to be having less problems with pain and arthritis (one has dysplasia).

It is more expensive, but you feed them less. Don't forget that.

We just made the switch to a raw food diet for our German Shepherd. We were very hesitant at first - for obvious reasons. It just seemed so foreign to us! But once we realized commercial manufacturers haven't been around forever, and dogs did just fine before them, we decided to give it a try.

Sasha LOVES her new diet. She gets so excited when it's time to eat. When she was getting Nutro every day she barely even looked at her dish.

Right now she gets raw ground turkey, bone meal and chopped veggies for dinner. We are working our way up to the meat and bone combinations like backs, necks, etc.

Time will tell if we've made the right choice!
