Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

J-P is safe and in an awesome room at Teton Village until he meets up with Travis tomorrow afternoon. He even has a boot dryer in his room and free snowboarding tickets waiting for him at the desk. I think he's in for a dream week! He said the mountains are breathtakingly beautiful.

Lisa - Wow! What a wonderful trip for JP!! I'm sure he'll have a great time.

I am glad he arrived safely. It sounds like he should have a really good time! Keep us posted on what he is doing. If he shares some pictures, see if you can pass them on to us.

I’m so glad you guys are getting saddlebags for the dogs. I hate it when people tie the poop bag around the dog’s neck!

Ewwwww! Really? I would never dream of doing that to Halle. YUCK!

That was a cute story about the lizard in your bathroom this morning.

Thank you for your kind words and continued prayers for Kristi.

Hey Y'all - long weird day going on here! Woke up to find that all the snow that melted with the warmer weather yesterday had re-frozen overnight into a sheet of glare ice...could not move the cars even a single inch, tires just spun on the ice...luckily the big truck was in a snow bank so had snow for traction to get it out onto the driveway! Slipped and slid the 10 miles to the main roads which were perfectly clear and dry, and made it to work, only to find they had opened late and only about a dozen agents even bothered to TRY to get there! The supers could not believe I was there, as folks who lived only a few miles away had stayed home!! I stayed until 7, then said to heck with this and headed home! We are due for freezing rain and sleet overnight into the morning, luckily I am off, and the same tomorrow nite into Wednesday morning...so if Wednesday is anything like today Pony will be staying home on Wednesday! And the even worse news is we are going to get slammed AGAIN on Friday night with up to another FOOT OF SNOW!! What in the world is going on around here?!! The state has already blown through the budget for snow removal, have broken half their vehicles and equipment and claim they have no more money or supplies to deal with the next storm. I decided to shop again on my way home in case I am stuck here until spring!! JOCELYN - I AM MOVING IN WITH YOU FOREVER!!!

whew, sorry to vent, but this is just insane!

Lisa - so glad JP is safely landed

Kathy - sounds like you are finally feeling better

Kate - that is just awful about Kristi...praying for answers and some resolution to this for her!

Nell - lots of good advice here about leaving your old place with PROOF of its condition! I have to agree, no matter how nice he seems to be about it, PROTECT YOURSELVES!!!

Diane - glad you are getting to the gym...I havent been able to get there for days, thank GOD I have a treadclimber at home...but I MISS the GYM!!

Got to have a nice hour long chat online with Ken this morning, they are several days behind due to some bad weather in the China Sea that kep them from getting to the rig...he was getting stir crazy hanging out onshore...he wants to get back home so badly! I think he is still afraid if he is gone too long I will take up with someone else! LOL, like who? All I can do is reassure him I am still here and waiting for him to return!

LOL, the grocery store looked like a bomb went through it...like WalMart last week...produce aisle next to empty except for brussel sprouts YUK YUK YUK, some teeny cabbages and a lonely head of cauliflower, which came home with me...NO MILK of any kind...NONE...managed to score a forgotten loaf of rye bread on a top shelf back in the corner for Mom...looks like it will be frozen veggies, eggs, and meat from the freezer for us this week!

Good morning ladies, and Tom if you're around.
Not much going on this morning. Woke up at 3:30 with a horrible sinus headache. Finally getting it under control. I just stayed in bed and dozed off and on for 2 1/2 hours.
Lisa, so glad J-P made it to WY. I know my sister said with the exception of CO, WY is a beautiful place. They have been there quite a few times themselves to ski. I think he would like Scotland also. My sister and her family were there when they were stationed over in England. The pictures were so beautiful. No words to describe the rolling hills, how green they were, and the awesome castles they toured. I personally would love to go to Holland. I would love to see the windmills and the tulips. I can only imagine how pretty they would be!
Good idea about the velcro wool things Lisa! I never even gave that a thought!!

Kate, I will continue to pray for your niece. They will probably never figure out where she got it from :( Wish I could do more.

Robin, hope you know how upset I am that you even TRIED to go to work in that ice!! You had better not do that again, or I'll have to come down there and make you stay at home!! Snow is one thing, but ice, that's a whole different ball park. I personally only go out in it if I have to, and that's usually to the convenience store a mile away. I know they are saying we are to get some snow, but didn't catch all the specifics.

Waiting to see if Punxy Phil sees his shadow or not. We have thought of going up there ground hog day, as we are only a 1/2 hour away (we go through Puxy to go to camp and once in a while go there to shop, but not many stores, mostly Walmart) but there are sooo many people there, it's just total chaos.
We went to check out that gym in my hometown last night. Looks as though we will be joining. Nothing fancy, but everything we need to work out. There are elipticals, treadmills, free weights, nautical weights, a place to do exercise balls too. It is only 40.00 per couple and a family costs I believe 65.00. That is a good deal if you have more than 1 child. 1 person costs 28.00. They have showers there too. I think if it is profitable for the owner, then he may expand and add more. So we will be going up today to sign up and get our swipe cards. They are open from 4am-midnight. So if we are bored some night, we can just hop in the car and work out. I will be able to visit mom more too. We stopped in last night after looking at the gym and she told me she also joined. She also is going to a workout program at her church. She wants me to go too. I'm not good in crowds, but I'll see. I could also stop off and visit Tris on the way home. I think that is a win-win situation!!
Ok, need to dress and heat the van up. I'll catch up with you all later.
:grouphug:

Do you hear that ROBIN! You better to listen to Kathy or I will have to come over there too (although I for one am not driving on ice)!!! PLEASE stay put and stay safe. Even if you have to eat brussell sprouts!

Kathy - I hope you feel better. Take antiobiotics if you have too.

Well, seems the morning weather pushed back to starting later...just starting to sleet a bit now...GLAD to be off today! Guess I will just wait it out and see what tomorrow brings before making any decisions on going in to work or not.

Kate and Kathy - Love you guys! Dont worry about this old cop...I know how to drive in this crap and would definitely turn around and come back home if I thought it was that bad! LOL, of course with our narrow back roads I might have to back up all the way back home!!

Kathy - so cool that you guys have joined a gym...see how dedicated we are all getting?!! :rotfl: I love the free weights best, its really always been my thing, but havent been doing too much of it until I lose more, so my big old muscles dont bulk up too much again...Funny how I can still feel the muscles under the flab, so I know they are waiting there for me to set them free again!

Kate - I believe I might eat pony food before attempting the brussel sprouts...YUK! My neighbor says they are just little cabbages, but Im not falling for it...they taste NASTY and I LIKE cabbage! If we get another foot of snow this weekend, I might have to resort to hunting and trapping! :scared1: Wonder if I could trap a really nice filet mignon or possibly a pizza? Wonder what kind of bait I will need?

Robin - If you find a way to trap pizza I'm moving to your house! :thumbsup2

Hello my MM warriors!!!

Just popping in for a quick hello! AKA quickie LOL!! :rotfl: I hope you are all doing well!!! I miss you guys and I'm sorry I haven't had much time to be o the disboards. I can do facebook from my iphone, this website is a bit challenging at times from my iphone. Now that my assitant is gone I am very busy during the day at work and lunch time goes really fast.

I hope you guys are still exercising :yay: and drinking your water.

Thinking of you all

:grouphug:

Hi Laura, good to see you even for a quick minute! Exercising is challenging when you cant get to the gym, but the treadclimber is here, and Im thinking about trying out some yoga...know anything about it? I know nothing, but read up a bit, and found some basic moves to try...as long as there is nobody here to watch I should be ok! LOL, some rather interesting positions if I do say so myself! Not sure I could do a public class, might get tossed out for giggling too much!

Diane - plenty of room here...Im thinking maybe if I used some herbs like oregano or something for bait? Or possibly some pepperoni? What do you think?

I’m back reading posts – been busy the past few days.

Lisa – here is the recipe. It is a recipe from Presto that I have had for years. The original recipe calls for veal, but I use chicken when I have a crowd in.

1 ½ pound of chicken – I cut up chicken breast tenders or you can pound them thin.
2 Tablespoon butter
2 Tablespoon olive oil (I generally use half of each)
1 clove garlic minced
1 small onion sliced
1 cup chicken stock
12 cup dry while wine
1 small can mushrooms – I use fresh and use quite a few sliced up
¼ cup tomato juice (I never have tomato juice so I use 2 tablespoons low carb ketchup and more wine to equal ¼ cup)
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ cup parmesan cheese sprinkled on just before serving and a little parsley for garnish if you have it.

It also calls for 2 Tablespoons of flour to shake the chicken in with salt and pepper. I just cook the juice down at the end, but a little flower would help to thicken the sauce.

Saute onion and garlic, add chicken and brown then add rest of ingredients. Simmer for 30 minutes.

We find making this a day ahead is MUCH better as it seasons the chicken. I drain the liquid off and cook it down – lots of flavor that way.

I used about 4 pounds of chicken tenders for 12 people – doubled the recipe and there was not much left.

I served spinach salad with bacon, green onions and chopped hard boiled egg.

I cook a pound of bacon all chopped up and save the drippings.
For the dressing I use equal amounts of drippings and rice vinegar with some (start with a teaspoon of each) Grey Poupon mustard, Worstechire Sauce and sugar (Splenda) mixed in. Heat in the microwave and pour over the spinach mixture. I can’t find the book with the recipe in it!!! I have been making this for years. For the pound of fresh spinach I used ½ cup vinegar and ½ cup drippings.

Carol – I don’t have any bread recipes. If you Google low carb bread there are a lot of them out there. Do you have a list of ingredients in the bread you like? Maybe you could use the same ingredients. I do think Diane said that the bread was really more than one carb, though.

I have been making the one minute muffin and find that very satisfying for a bread like thing. We shared one this morning with our eggs – quite tasty. I use half golden flax and half almond meal. I am using almond meal I got at Trader Joe’s last summer when we were in CA. Do you have one near you? It is definitely less expensive than Bob’s Red Mill, although the skins are on it when they grind it.

Good Luck Pam on your re-start.:thumbsup2

Kate – so sorry to hear about your niece. That has really been a nightmare for her and the family.

Lisa - We think Wyoming is great in the summer – have camped there several times, but can only imagine how beautiful the mountains are covered in snow. He should have a great time there.

I can’t imagine your weather – Robin. We are having a VERY rainy day here, but it is warm. Bob is off playing bridge and I am doing a bit of cooking for the week. I went to the chiropractor this morning so was going to take it easy today. I had hoped for a day like yesterday that was hot so I could be outside, but did not happen.:sad1:

I got a great water workout in yesterday at the gym as well as a weight workout. It is really too bad the gym with all the good stuff is so far away, but I might venture back there tomorrow as I will be half way there with a morning appointment.

Hi Laura:banana:

Kathy – hope you get over your cold soon – not fun to have.:flower3:

Robin – good luck on “catching some food” I had to laugh at that one.

Do take to heart the suggestions from everyone about your rentals, Nell – especially if you are not telling him you are leaving. I’m glad you are so excited about your new place, though.

Not much else to report from here!! Busy for the rest of the week. At least we are eating in for a few days – no matter how careful I am when I go out, I get too much of stuff I don’t want.

Last night was Chinese – I did not enjoy it at all. A Chinese lady did the ordering and I had things I have never had before. I am an adventurous eater usually, but this was too much!!! Most of it was breaded and fried or some veggie I have never heard of. We enjoyed the company, though. I finally took some rice so it would look like there was something on my plate!!!

Happy MMing everyone:grouphug:

My girls and I took a yoga class together a number of years ago. It was a first for all three of us. There was quite a bit of giggling - I thought we would get tossed out!

Robin - Do you have On Demand from your cable company? They have free yoga programs in the Mag Rack. If not, google yoga classes and a bunch come up that are shown free online.

It's starting to snow. We're only supposed to get about an inch or so by tomorrow morning.

I watched Zorro at the gym today and yesterday I watched Bruce Almighty. I'm so surprised at myself and how much I'm enjoying this. I have to say the only thing I don't enjoy is the ladies who feel the need to change out in the open area. There are curtained cubbies and another area that is kind of out of the way, but these women will be in their underwear right in front of the locker my coat is in! :scared1: I scoot in and scoot out when someone is half naked in the middle of the room. What's up with that exhibitionist (sp?)behavior? Also, while I'm at it - why do ladies wear baseball hats inside? I think it looks foolish. I like them outside, if you're running/walking. Okay, I'm done complaining for the day!

On Friday the winner of the Biggest Loser is going to be on The Doctors and I think the plastic surgeon is going to offer to give him a tummy tuck. I hope so - it looked that way from the coming attractions.

My brother is a part-time actor. He's had small parts on a couple of shows like Law & Order. He had a small part in Spiderman 3. Tomorrow night he's on Mercy on ch. 4 at 8pm. He plays a cop in the woods and his lines start with "We found the abandoned ranger station..." It's fun to see him on TV! :happytv:

Diane: I can’t wait to see your brother on Mercy! I’ll DVR it so we won’t miss him. Out here, a lot of ladies walk around totally naked in the locker room. I can’t imagine. I think they wear ball caps for those bad hair workout days. I wish I looked cute in a ball cap, but I look silly every time I try. I am so happy for that winner getting the tummy tuck. I worry about those people losing so quickly and all that extra skin. He’ll look amazing!

Robin: A lot of dieticians say you can get even more nutrition from frozen veggies sometimes if they are frozen when fresh, as opposed to shipped all over creation ‘fresh’ so don’t worry about buying frozen. I just make sure they haven’t added butter, salt and sugar to them. Love my brussel sprouts, though! Stay safe out there in that ice! I love yoga, especially the breathing. It’s very calming and nourishing. You should get a tape. I love Rodney Yee. He makes AM/PM that come on one DVD or video.

Jocelyn: Thanks so much for the recipes! I need more ‘company’ recipes. My Mom used to make the wilted salad with the bacon dressing. It’s really good.

Hi, Laura! It’s always so great to see you!

Kathy: I hope the sinuses are better today. If not, you might want to see the doc in case you have an infection. Sinus infections don’t often go away on their own.

Kate: I’m not afraid I would giggle in yoga. I’m afraid that being menopausal and on fiber might cause an embarrassing moment in a crowd. I would die!

John-Paul is having an amazing time in Jackson Hole. I’m so excited for him. God bless a kid that calls his parents while he’s on vacation.

My PT said I can walk for the grand total of – get this: 5 to 10 minutes! I said I can’t let my dog see me then because she’d be disgusted if we had to turn around that quickly. He said not to go with the dog just yet. Brother. The massage today did feel great!

Good evening everyone! So nice to see you all here today!! Feeling a bit tired, so won't be too long tonight.

Lisa, I don't believe my sinuses are infected (at least yet) they just get plugged up and then I get a sinus headache. But I will be sure to keep an eye on it for sure. Glad J-P is having fun. And such a good son to call. Or is he calling to rub it in a bit? LOL

Robin, hope you're not getting snow/iced in. Just be careful. I vote for fillet mignon. LOL I am a steak person.

Diane, I'll have to keep an eye out for your brother!! We sort of know a famous person!! :happytv:

Jocelyn, the recipes sound awesome!! Guess what I'll be having this week? LOL Thanks for sharing. Any chance you put it in the recipe thread also? My grandma used to make wilted lettuce. It is prepared the same way as your salad, only the dressing is only vinegar and drippings. I haven't had that in years. I love it!! I also like cucumbers with whipping cream, salt, pepper and a bit of vinegar. I haven't had those in over 10 years!! I wish grandma had written down how she made those.

Well, Mike and I went to the gym. I did 45 minutes on the treadmill and 15 minutes on the bicycle. I wore a sauna suit, so I did a lot of sweating! I forgot to eat something before we went, and I was famished afterward!! Mike wanted Chinese, and I caved big time. Sweet and sour pork and an egg roll. I am on step 1, but I need to mix it up a tad. I've been on step 1 since beginning this in Sept and getting a bit bored. So if I mix in a few step 2 foods once in a while, or as snacks, I think I'll be ok. I am holding steady weight wise, so that is a good thing.
Ok, off to bed. Have a great night everyone. I have to work tomorrow night, then off to work out afterward.

Laura, yes, I had WATER during my exercising!! It was only 24 oz, but I'm getting there LOL.

Nighty night everyone!!

Good morning everyone!! Time to wake up!!!! Open your eyes, stretch very gently, raise your arms to the sky and yawn!
Had a great night's sleep last night. I didn't wake up once until about 5, laid around and dozed off again around 5:30 and got up around 6. Feeling pretty good so far this morning. A small sinus headache, but nothing like it had been. I used Afrin last night instead of my Flonase. My congestion was gone in about 5 minutes! Now Carrie has the cold. She said about her sinuses hurting, so I sanitized the nozzle thing and gave her mine. I'll check on her. She also took some Dayquil. Hope she caught this before it gets too bad. She's really sleepy too.
Not much going on so far this morning. Started snowing a bit, but not supposed to get much.
Ok off to shower. Have a great day everyone!!

Morning Gals (and Tom, I KNOW you're out there)

Trying to talk myself out of going to work today, but I know we are in for more snow Friday, so I suppose I better get myself together and slide on in to the office....even mama got her little car out and went to work, so I guess theres not too much excuse for me...we got another inch of snow last night, so its actually better than driving on the ice. Its just kind of slushy out there now. The bad news is that last nights news is now showing the friday storm to be dropping between 15 and 24 inches!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

Diane - I wish my gym's TV's would play with sound, but there are so many of them that you have to bring some sort of ear thingies to hear the sound, and I dont have any! So I either read my book, or watch a movie with no sound, which just ticks me off...especially since there is rarely anyone there when I go, so I wish I could find the darn remote that would give me some audio!!

Kathy - so glad you are finally feeling better! You can read it in your voice! Sorry Carrie is getting it though, I guess its almost inevitable to spread it around the house.

Lisa - glad you are given the go ahead to begin some walking...tell Bonnie to give you a little time and you will be back on dog walk duty!

A close friend of mine back home has a celebrity son, sort of! He is the executive producer for CSI...I noticed the other day that Peter has pictures posted on his FB page of him on the set there at Christmas! He always calls us to be sure we are watching for him during the awards shows!

When I told the ponies about my plans to do some trapping for Filet Mignon they got a bit panicked! LOL, I assured them I would eat the darn brussels sprouts before I would go for Pony meat!!

Robin - That's exactly like the machines at my gym that aren't in the Cardio Theater room. Do you have a Dollar Tree store near you? They sell the earbuds for $1.00. I bought a pair and when I am in the open gym I use them to watch TV.
