OK Dis Friends, please help me with this decision!

Do I want a George Foreman Grill with the heating unit on top and bottom of my meat OR do I want a one sided flat Grill/Griddle?

I can see how heating on top and bottom would give a quicker cooking time and lock in moisture. But, I also like the flat grills which tend to be larger and I would also have a pancake griddle!

We are a family of four -- kids are 13 and 11.

Any advice or past experience would be appreciated!

We are a family of 5 and I have both. I use the flat griddle for pancakes, sometimes eggs and I've done a lot of burgers at once on it.

I use the forman grill for chicken, steak, hot dogs stuff like that. It works much better for burgers too. It gives more of a grilled flavor than the griddle does.

I used to have one of the Foreman grills but it was a pain to clean and it takes up valuable space. Now I have a cast iron grill/griddle that fits over two burners on the stove and I love it. I think it is a Lodge and I'm pretty sure you can now buy ones that are pre-seasoned. I use mine several times a week.

Are you looking to cook meat or pancakes and eggs? The George Foreman is great for chicken and hamburgers; the griddle is awesome for pancakes and eggs and grilled cheese. Unless you'll mainly be cooking in one category or the other, I suggest getting both.

I have a Bella Cucina (sp?) panini maker. It has two sets of plate that go in it. A grill set and a griddle set. The best of both worlds. I haven't actually tried hamburgers on it, but I have done pork chops and they were wonderful. I have used it for pancakes a few times too. It works great, as long as I remember to put the drip cup under it if I am doing meat. :)
