Genie plus and annual passes

I’m really confused as to why this is such a big deal. Other than having to do the purchase process each day before booking the rides (which with a stored credit card takes a few seconds) you’re at absolutely no disadvantage with respect to using the system. Am I missing something???

Or you can choose to purchase it at 6:55 am before making your 7am selection. Still, not ideal at all. But I think people confusing “can” book at 12:01 am with “must” book at 12:01 am. And based on yesterday’s reports, it seemed like many people who waited to purchase their ILL$ later in the day were able to get most of what they wanted save for RotR (did I see that they did a second drop later in the day?). We definitely need more data to determine if it’s actually necessary to wake up at 7am to get what we want.
That’s my plan, 6:55, 7:00 😂

Not to sound rude for local APs but it would be nice if you have a hotel stay and AP you could add it with your group ahead of time. Of course I only want to add it for one day anyways. Personally I didn’t see the value in it looking at the tip board yesterday. For me at $15 sure OK, but I’m a big ride person while the rest of my group really isn’t. $45 for 3 or $75 for five people…just at MK.

RIP the “sleep until 8:30, hang in the DVC villa until 10, go to the pool until 1, go to the parks late afternoon to close touring method with 3 guaranteed short waits.” I don’t see G+ helping that. Maybe an ILL$ for FoP or RotR. Overall G+ provides less value but costs more money for my touring style.

I thought it was available to purchase for the day at 12 AM. Not that you HAVE to purchase it at 12 AM but you can purchase it at any time between 12 AM and 6:59 AM if you want to make your first selection at 7 AM. If you don't want to make your first selection at 7 AM I don't see why you have to purchase it earlier than that. Yeah it is probably a pain to have to get up, but if you're planning a full day in the park you would be getting up anyway? And if you aren't planning a full day in the park, you probably don't need Genie +

Just as Airb330 posted, we also do not like to get up early. We sleep till 8:30-9:00 and sometimes pool before parks. Disney is really starting to be a hassle. Me and my wife talked about it this morning and she suggested we try and sell our DVC and said she doesn’t think we should renew our AP’s if they did away with the renewal and or DVC discount. After our trip this month, ( https://www.disboards.com/threads/the-trip-that-may-have-changed-things-forever.3855719/ ) other destinations are looking better and better. I love everything Disney but for us the genie+ will be an additional $60+tax per day. Time to make some decisions.

I have an Annual Pass and on site reservations. When I tried to book Genie+ the note said "you can add Disney Genie+ service to your existing package, please the the travel provider who originally arranged your booking or the Disney Reservation Center at (407) 939-5277."

I'm opting to wait. After my 6 hour hold to book the Galactic Star Cruiser on Oct. 12th I'm not interested in waiting on hold for any more time unless absolutely necessary.

I posted this on another thread.. I have an AP and disney resort reservations in Dec. when I tried too add G+ on the app, I received this message. Note the bottom paragraph that says “my admission type is not eligible…”614870

You can't add Genie Plus until the day you want to use it. The only guests who can add it in advance of the specific day are persons with a resort reservation plus tickets, who can add in advance only if they wish to purchase it for every ticketed day in their stay.

If your group likes to sleep in and then go to the pool before hitting the parks, not sure why you would want to buy Genie+. You could probably use ILLS if you are able to grab a later time for them.

I have a friend who is at HS now with her sister. She wanted to use it while her sister didn't because the sister prefers the shows to the rides. she says it is probably not worthwhile to have one member of a party use Genie+ while the others do not, they would have to split up a lot.

Do you mean resort reservation + ticket package? Because we have resort reservations with tickets purchased separately.

I think you just have to have a resort reservation with tickets on the same account. But not AP since it can't be associated with a particular stay, and you must buy it for every ticket associated with that stay. That's what I understand at least, but I'm AP and couldn't add it ahead of time if I wanted to. It's an add-on to the tickets, not the room.

We may sell some DVC but are going to give it 2-3 years first. If we cannot get as much done in the parks w/o paying and APs continue to soar, we may book larger rooms, less often and definitely less park days. Perhaps this all shakes out and we get used to it or even like G+ (or the potentially shorter standby times compared to FP+ days). I'd say give it some time before selling anything--there's some good discussions in the dvc forums. Most of us aren't loving all the negative changes lately.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why is it important to add G+ prior to the day you are going to use it? I hadn't considered buying it until just before I was going to use it.

Thanks for answering my biggest question.
I an not challenging your info... just wondering where you obtained this information? This is the first I have seen that question answered. thanks! :)

Disney has discussed this from the beginning. Genie+ addition really has nothing to do with onsite or offsite, it is tied directly to your tickets and is handled different for each type of tickets.

FROM DISNEY SITE

How do I add Disney Genie+ service to my existing theme park tickets or vacation package?

If you have valid theme park tickets and wish to modify them with a purchase of Disney Genie+ service, you can do so ahead of your visit—or on the day of your visit—on this website or via the My Disney Experience mobile app.

If you would like to modify an existing package with a purchase of Disney Genie+ service, you can do so through this website or by calling (407) 939-5277 if you booked directly through Disney.

Passholders can purchase Genie+ on the day of their visit.

I think some people know they’ll want to buy it and just want to save that time the “morning of” so they can concentrate on booking Genie+ LL and ILL$.

Am I oversimplifying this, or perhaps not understanding it completely? It seems like folks with regular 1/2/3/4/5+ day tickets can get them in advance, but only for the length of their ticket - meaning $15 x the number of days. They cannot do that with AP, else we'd be paying for 365 days! But as an AP/DayOf buyer of G+, we'll have a planning option to perhaps buy in Day 1, Day 3, Day 6 of our stay instead of the entire trip. Maybe Day 2 we want to go to EPCOT and enjoy the festival - not worried about rides. We don't need to buy G+ that day. Of course, if we are at the festival, that $15 only buys us one drink each - but it's still an option as an AP entrant!!
