We are trying to vacation close to home this year to save some money. Has anyone ever been there? Did you have a great experience?

Um yeah. I live about 10 minutes away. GOTL is interesting. The Strip is bars, arcades and cheesy shops. A mix of bikers, families and regular folk. There are lots of cottages and a couple Mom and Pop motels. We usually go down for some greasy food and people watching. And there is an Adventure zone- games, putt putt, that kind of thing there for the kids. There are many wonderful wineries in this area. We would rather come your way and do Presque Ilse. There is a nice resort hotel-Geneva Lodge- at the end of the strip.

We were there 3 years ago and thought it a charming throw back to 50's America. Mostly restaurants and games on the strip. We stayed in the State Lodge mentioned by the previous poster; it was very nice. We keep talking about going back for a couple of nights. It's not a good candidate for longer that maybe 3 nights as it would get pretty boring, unless you had several families with you.

Yuck.. Been there and hated it. I found it very cheesy and unfriendly. Nothing to do.
