GenePA didn't realize that I was logged in... this is another one of his wonderful restaurant reviews.
Here are a few restaurant reviews from our trip to WDW...06/28 thru 07/04. The trip consisted of DW, DS (17), DD (12), and myself. The ratings I am providing are on a 1 (bad) to 10 (great) scale and reflect food quality and service. Here is part 1 and if you should have any questions, please fell free to ask....
Le Cellier (dinner)
We have been to Le Cellier for lunch but never dinner. I have read where many have raved about their steaks so we decided to give it a shot. We started with their breadsticks and each of us had a cup of their cheddar cheese soup. DD did not like the soup; basically because she does not like bacon and it had bacon bits on top as well as a smoky flavor overall the rest of us felt the soup was good to very good.
DW and I each had the strip steak (w/béarnaise sauce) and it was cooked to perfection (very rare). It was very good though we still find the strip steak at The Flying Fish to be the best on WDW property. In addition to the steak, we had roasted potatoes & tomatoes both very good but rather skimpy on the quantity. My DS has the filet mignon which he said was very good but he found the cream cheese mashed potatoes to be rather average. DD had a hot dog and fries which were fine.
Overall, the service was good Elaine our server was very pleasant and enjoyed picking on our son as much as we do. They were a little slow on the drink refills but passable.
Rating overall gets an 8 out of 10 very good much better than our past lunch experiences. This was the most expensive meal on our trip around $135 (no alcohol) so be aware that this is not an inexpensive restaurant.
Yakitori (dinner)
We always have overlooked this counter-service restaurant in EPCOT but decided to give it a shot prior to our recent trip and we were very pleased. My DS and I each had the Tokyo sushi appetizer definitely not a high quality sushi roll but it was good. DW had a yakitori chicken and DD had a shrimp tempura for their appetizers both enjoyed them.
For the main entrees, DS had curry udon large noodles in a spicy chicken based broth which he said was very good. DW also had udon but with shrimp tempura on top. She also liked the udon noodles and broth (mild, not spicy) but found the tempura to get very mushy sitting on top of her soup...good flavor though. DD had chicken yakitori and rice...she really liked her meal. I had the beef curry which was spicy but not overly hot it was like a spicy beef stew with carrots and potatoes I mixed it with rice and it was very good.
Overall we enjoyed this meal quite a bit and found it very reasonably priced and tasty for a counter service restaurant. We give it a rating of 7.5 out of 10 considering the price and overall quality. Well definitely be back in the future.
Boatwrights (dinner)
A restaurant I have always wanted to try though DW has always been a bit hesitant thinking it would be too spicy for her. DS sat this one out as he was more tired than hungry and stayed behind in our room. DD and DW both had the French onion soup and enjoyed the mild flavor. They each also had a baked potato which was fine. DW had a crab cake appetizer for her main meal and found them to be excellent she was pleasantly surprised with both quantity and quality of the lightly fried crab cakes. There was also a cajun cole slaw with the crab cakes that was very spicy with a vinegar based dressing neither of us liked this.
I had the Cajun wings for an appetizer which were both sweet and spicy there was a sweet marmalade on the wings which were then topped with a hot sauce very good. For my main meal, I had the butchers tender on top of cheddar grits in a scallion based broth (very little of this). This was very tasty the meat was cooked rare and went well with the grits. The cut of meat is from the shoulder and looks like a tenderloin I never heard of this cut before so I thought Id mention what it was.
A good meal that gets 7 out of 10 nothing great but very good. A highlight of this meal was the entertainment coming from the bar area next door. Bob Jackson (?) was singing and playing on the piano and he was a riot. The crowd was raucous and having a great time it made our meal even more enjoyable.
1900 Park Fare (breakfast)
A restaurant we always wanted to try and being we hadnt been to a character meal in a while, we gave this a shot. This was a breakfast buffet that had a separate area where they cooked omelets and eggs to order. The buffet included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, biscuits, french toast, waffles, hash browns w/cheese, cheese blintzes, cereals, pastries, and fruits. We found the overall quality of food to be average and the service was good. The cheese blintzes were the best taste I had very light, creamy, and sweet. DW really enjoyed the french toast. DD and I each had fresh cooked eggs which were very good too. Other than that, nothing stood out food wise.
The characters consisted of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and the Mad Hatter. They were visible most of the time we were there and seemed to interact well and often with the kids, and other patrons. Mary Poppins was in the lobby but I dont recall seeing her in the restaurant.
One item I need to make note this restaurant had a table clearer (bus boy/man) and he was amazing. He was a machine and we could not stop watching him clear the tables. He was working so hard and efficient that I got tired just watching him. I asked our server about him and she indicated that at times, they have had others call out sick and he was the only one in and he still gets everything done and cleared in a timely manner. I made a point of speaking to him afterwards and told him I was amazed at how hard he was working and the great job he was doing he thanked me and I feel he appreciated the comment.
Overall, well give this restaurant a 6 out of 10. Good characters good service OK food!
Grand Floridian Café (lunch)
We hadnt been here for years so we stopped for lunch one day. DD had French onion soup which she gave a big thumbs up. In addition, she had strawberry shortcake which she said was amazing I know it looked very good. DS ordered a Philly cheesesteak much to my chagrin. Being we live outside of Philadelphia, I tried to tell him that it would not be like at home and he should order something else plus it cost $13.99 eek! Well, he was as disappointed as I thought he would be the sandwich was skimpy, small, and tremendously overpriced a first class rip-off in my opinion.
DW ordered the Turkey Club (w/fries) which she enjoyed despite the fact it was on wheat bread not one of her favorites. I ordered The Floridian burger (w/fries) which was a hamburger with bacon, guacamole, jerk sauce, and pepper jack cheese. It still sounds very good to me but was just average it really lacked flavor and was rather bland I still find that hard to believe considering the toppings but it was.
Overall we give this a 5 out of 10 two of us were happy with their meal and two of us were a bit disappointed.
That's it for now...thanks for reading!
