Gee, what a surprise

It's interesting that we complain more about the cost of going to Disney on vacation but we don't address the issues that affect the necessities in our daily lives. Florida recently raised the rates for auto registrations from $27.10 a year to $45.65 a year, a 68% price increase. Also, Florida increased driver's license renewals from $20.00 to $48.00, a 140% price increase. When WFTV did a story on this in August just before the increases, people interviewed weren't happy but simply accepted it. I don't understand why we simply accept these increases (having a car and a driver's license is a must these days) but we complain about the price of taking vacations, a luxury, at Disney.

There is an emotional attachment to Disney......and they know it.

Just reading these boards lets you know that guests develope a connection with Disney. DVC even uses the phrase "Welcome Home."

Vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate (which is available anywherei in the world) tastes better at Disney. Folks will spend hours in line to ride a favorite attraction. People start planning their next trip before the one they are currently on has ended

Disney has done everything in their power to foster this attachment and to keep people coming back. They have done everything to foster multi-generational trips so that the elders can pass along the love of the Mouse.

Nothing tastes better at the DMV. There is no emotional bond. It's a task that needs to be completed and not thought about for X number of years.

As a company, you cant sell that warm fuzzy feeling and then be surprised when guests get upset when things change. It feels like a trusted family member has their hand in your wallet.

Logically, we can all understand that Disney is a business. We get it....but that doesnt change the fact that we are invested and feel let down whenthings like this occur.

The other issue is that of profits. It's a dirty word with many but one that is necessary in sustaining a business. One argument I hear so often is that if you just lowered the price you would make more money. Unfortunately it just isn't that simple. Lowering the price on something rarely produces greater profits. That just basic economics.

I agree that lowering prices isn't a good idea; however, I don't agree with raising prices either right now. I think the majority of people would tell you just keeping prices static for a while would be pleasing. I think what most people are disgusted with right now is the rate of the increases. Just when you get over one increase it seems like another one is right behind it. Too much, too fast.
