Does anyone here have the GE Money Universal Credit Card? What is the consensus from disboards members here. Are the rewards decent? How does it stack up to the Disney Rewards Visa from Chase?

Thanks,

Larry

Please google GE Money scam and stay FAR FAR away from any of their cards. I'm currently dealing with a nightmare of a situation where they are claiming they never received my payment, despite proof from my bank that my check was cashed. Seems this is an ongoing scam where they claim payments are lost in order to tack on late fees, additional interest, etc. I am one of countless others who have dealt with this situation, and they are currently on the watch list of many consumer groups and attorneys general.

Run, don't walk away from any card through GE Money Bank!

Hold on there Dude. I have the Uni card and it is a good card. Solid rewards. When I did have a customer service issue, I was treated fairly and they fixed my issue right away. I thing Jynohn is a rare situation and a little bitter. In regards to Disney card, I think it is better b/c Disney only offers Disney rrewards. The Uni card has many different rewards. Sort of like ZBlue from Amex. I also have other GE Money cards (loews) and they are good cards. I mean they're all credit cards, so ...

Nope, not a rare situation at all (although I definitely am bitter). Google them and you'll find hundreds if not thousands of complaints just like mine. In fact, I just got off the phone with them this morning after arguing with various levels of customer service representatives for the past week. They had no record of my payment and wouldn't accept a copy of my bank statement as proof, yet miraculously "found" my payment two minutes after I threatened to report them to the Office of Trade Supervision. Their excuse was "a number must have been transposed." From what I've read, that seems to happen a lot over there, coincidentally right when the interest-free promotional period is set to end....

I'm glad you had a good experience with them so far. Hopefully your turn won't come next.

Jynohn -- sorry you've had a tough time with them.

I've had their card for over a year without any problem. I applied to get the discounted "Meal Deal" at the parks last year, used the card for the meal deal and then paid it off. Haven't used it since then.

DH just applied for the card last month when we were there for the reduced price meal deal promo. We've already received our first statement and paid it online. We don't plan on using it for anything else.

Glad to know not everyone has had a bad experience with this card. Still, I am surprised that so few of the people on this board have this card. They are pretty aggressive about promoting it at the parks. I thought there would be many cardholders as there are many who have the Chase Disney rewards Visa.

I came across your post and just wanted to add that so far I am pleased with the GE money credit cards! I am trying to rebuild my credit and boost it, and so far I have never had any problems with this company or any of their cards. In this economy the banks are getting tighter in extending credit and so it's hard to get companies that will work with you. Unfortunately I don't have the Universal card from GE but I will look into it.

I don't think the Universal Card is offered anymore. (This is an OLD thread you resurrected). GE Money offered the Universal card since NBC Universal was owned by GE. Not too long after the Comcast buyout of NBCUniversal the onsite GE Money location in Citywalk and all references to the Universal card disappeared. Since then, I've noticed that even the ATM's at the parks are now affiliated with Chase instead of GE.
