Does anybody know if you buy BLT from a CA guide, whether you can get founding member status for GCV, or do you have to buy AKV? What is the minimum number of points to get this?

I thought I saw this question posted last night somewhere. I didn't really understand it and still don't but here's a valiant attempt since I can't follow what you're trying to do and how you're doing it.

As far as I know, the two times "Founding Member" status have been offered, you had to be among the first 1000 EXISTING members (you must ALREADY be a member of DVC and in the system) to purchase a minimum number of points AT the resort the Founding Member status was being offered at.

We don't even know if GCV will HAVE a Founding Members group yet AFAIK. If there is, you will likely have to buy the points AT that resort. It won't matter whether they're purchased in Springfield at the mall, WDW or DL.

I can't imagine what buying points at AKV has to do with Founding Member status or points at GCV UNLESS you're trying to establish yourself as a member by purchasing there FIRST in preparation for buying MORE points at GCV but I have to admit I'm having a hard time following all your acronyms and logic.

Maybe if you'd spend a few more minutes actually trying to explain what you're TRYING to accomplish instead of guessing at a solution at the same time, we could halp more. :)

The CA DVC center has a status of Founding Member for those who have purchased from that center. The name refers to the status of these purchasers regarding sales of GCV - since they will have first opportunity to purchase at that resort when it begins sales - before any other DVC members or the general public.

I have not seen any specific information about BLT being included in the CA incentive for GCV, but I would expect that you would qualify for that status with either AKV or BLT at this time. I think you may still be able to purchase 100 points at AKV, but the minimum for BLT is 160 points for a new purchase. If you are already a member, the minimum at BLT is 100 points to get the $107 pricing. I'm not sure what the minimum purchase via CA is for an add-on to qualify for the GCV purchase status.

I'd sure verify that program with your CA guide before buying.

Good luck! :)

I've been told that yes, those who buy BLT points thru the Disneyland sales center will get the Founding Member status for VGC.

A-HA!! Thanks ever so much. My problem is that I don't have a CA guide, I have a Florida guide. He knows I'm interested in both BLT and GCV, but if just buying my 100 add-on BLT points from a CA guide gave me an advantage to getting GCV, why shouldn't I do that? I can't swing 160 BLT points and still buy GCV, though, if that's the minimum.

I visited Doorway to Dreams in Illinois over the summer, and was told that if I bought from them, my guide in Florida would be "protected." What does that mean? Would it work the same way if I bought from a guide in California? Can you buy over the phone from a guide in California?

Thanks again.

maburke, my understanding is that your initial purchase into DVC has to be through the DL office but don't take my word for it. There was an article at dvc news that interviewed the CA DVC sales manager and I remember it saying that. However I wouldn't be suprised if the guidelines weren't set in stone - esp if they have a sales goal to meet. I mean who are they really accountable to to maintain strict guidelines on this issue?

We went to see the VGC models when we headed to DL this summer. We had already purchased 175 pts at AKV from disneyworld earlier this year. The incentives were amazing---$8 off per point that we could put towards our downpayment, matching SSR or DL pts (at 160+ pts) 2 Annual pass vouchers for DL or WDW and the $500 visa gift card. We were also told we would have Founding Member status for VGC. Of course, we just had to add on 160 points at AKV!! In my contract paperwork for the add on it says that we will be provided the opportunity to become a founding member by being granted the opportunity to purchase one ownership interest or additional ownership interest in VGC symbolized by up to 160 home resort vacation points PRIOR to allowing non participating or prospective purchasers to purchase an ownership interest in the resort (pre-sales opportunity).

It then says that we must purchase an ownership interest in VGC within the 60 day period prior to the planned date on which presales of VGC resort to the General PUblic begin and that they will notify us at least 90 days prior.

Oh and we will receive a gift from DVD commemorating the opening of the villas that will have an approximate value of $100.

Of course, we don't have to add on again but we were out there for the Indiana Jones summer happenings and couldn't pass up the great add on incentives---especially since we weren't well educated when we bought in initially and only got the $8 off per point.

Since the BLT incentives haven't been too great, I think we may just wait and do a small add on at VGC since we'll likely go every 2-3 years. Besides, if I really need the monorail, I'll stay at the Poly!

Hope this helps!

I don't know if this helps or not but let me add my two cents on this subject.

I attended the Member Event at DL in May of this year. At that time I spoke with the newly assigned West Director for the DVC West Sales team. During our discussion he shared if we purchased at least 100 points while attending the Member event we would receive Founding Member status. Which means we would be able to have the first opportunity to purchase GCV points prior to the rest of the DVC members and of course the public.

I decided to add on 100 AKV points just so I would have this 'founding member' status. When I received my paperwork for the AKV points there was a special document that I had to sign showing I received founding member privledges.

I am waiting to hear something from my Guide on when these points come available for purchase but so far just waiting.....:rolleyes1

I forgot about that 90 day notice. I guess that push sales opening to all DVC members no earlier than January.

This would be if sales were announced tomorrow.

I understand you are trying to help and, without being a total Elphie, I have to wonder why you felt the need to accuse the poster of being unclear simply because you did not understand the question? Even simply asking for clarification would have been better, but the question was obviously clear enough for several others to correctly respond. If you do not understand someone's post, maybe you should read and learn instead of answering (incorrectly) and then accusing the poster of being unclear.

Call it my suggestion for "how to make friends and influence people" on the DISBoard!

Blahnde: I had the same reaction to the PP as you--but you put it much more diplomatically than I probably could have!!!!!!

Well, I spoke to a sales manager (in Florida, admittedly), and got a few answers. The GCV Founding Member option was intended to draw more new buyers into the California office, so it's given on new contracts done in person at the DL sales office. They won't stop a current member from getting it, but it has to be on a new contract, which was minimum 160 points on SS and AKV, but now is 100 points on AKV. It seems that the answer to my question of whether it's available on BLT is that since it's aimed toward new members, and new members can't officially buy into BLT until Sunday, 10/5, it's not offered yet. Also, as the minimum new contract buy-in to BLT is 160 points (isn't it?), I think the minimum to get GCV founding member, if it ends up being offered, will be 160 BLT points. AND I'd have to go to California to do it, so I don't think I'm going to try for it.

He also thought that GCV would easily get to the general member population, and so I shouldn't worry. :confused3

If anyone else was interested in this answer, I hope I made it clear. Thanks for the responses.

Noted.

Just to be clear...

It's to bad that tone and facial expressions are not a part of the web but they're not. I certainly meant no ill feelings in my original post and no; I didin't understand but I attempted to share what I did know. THEN all of you hop in with your help. That's great. I'm sure he appreciates it. I do too. I learned what he was talking about and now I know.

Again; to the OP, I can see where my choice of verbage may have been misinterpreted. My apologies. That was not the intent.

As for my reply above. It stands. It is exactly the tone I intended. I'm a 47 YO executive. Don't talk to me like I'm a child. I have friends in real life. I'm here for information. If friendships happen, so be it but it is not my primary modus-operandi here.

Diplomacy clearly does not always work, but good for you for being more diplomatic than I could be this time!

I have friends in real-life, too, but I could always use more; wanna be my friend, toocherie???

Blahnde

I would love to be your friend! I guess I could add you to my buddy list (whatever that is!) :dance3:

Yes, you get founding member status for GCV by purchasing BLT through a CA guide (I just signed paperwork this Sunday in the CA office). I do not know the minimum number of points to qualify. (I purchased 165 points.)

It needs to be a master contract so whatever the minimum buy in points are at the particular resort you are purchasing (AKV, BLT).
