Got curious with the GCVs and looked it up. There is like what 48 rooms, right? How on earth do the people who actually own there get in?

Owners have problems so do people at the 7 month mark. Dumbo 777 was just lucky or booking during a not so popular time period for California which do not necessarily match the popular dates at WDW. October through December is very hard to get at VGF and any California school breaks. Now with Star Wars: Galaxy Quest I expect it will be more difficult year round for at least 2 years.

I'm one of those "founding members" of VGC with the picture hanging on my wall to prove it. :goodvibes

Actually, home resort bookings there are not difficult at all in my experience. There are a few times of the year that align with the DL CP, a few holidays and the D23 event that the studios can go quick and sometimes the larger villas but if you book right at 11 months I've never not gotten what I wanted. It's actually my home resort that I can usually book right up until the 7 month window for some accommodation. Like everywhere else the studios go first but much of the year are not bad to get up to the 7 month window and the GV's can be iffy since there are only 2. At 7 months the rooms get snatched quickly.

We own there but only go every 2-3 years. We have never had a problem but we book 11 months out. We booked 2 2-bedroom villas for June. Fortunately we are out of points until 2021 so SWGE won’t be so new next time we book.

I wonder why Disney didn't do more with DVC there? They just converted resort rooms over, right?

No, it was a new wing. Actually the rest of the wing is tied to VGC and at some point could have been included but they only did the small number. They don't have as large of a west coast base and I think VGC was in many ways a test. And for the size it took awhile to sell out although it was in the midst of these recession so probably not the best barometer.

They cannot. There are strict rules by the city of Anaheim that restrict Disney to 150 total units of timeshare. VGC is considered to have something like 79 as Anaheim counts via max bookable units.

Anaheim h the power to grant or deny the conditional use permit for any new timeshare units.

Disney doesn't call the shots out west like they do in LBV.

Back when VGC was built it was a much more friendly council and Mayor. It shifts around and probably will again at some time.

I own at BWV but have stayed there several times. We always stay there the Sunday to Wednesday nights before D23 but have to get a 1 bedroom. Other times studios. I had to play with waitlists last October.

The zoning code is 150 max, and changing that is an ordeal in the making even with a friendly council. Zoning codes in California are intense. Right now, Anaheim is unlikely to approve units to get Disney to the max of what is allowed, but even a friendly council can't just override zoning.

In 2018 we got a 2/2 at VGC over Thanksgiving at 7 months out - it was a great week and our 1st trip to DL - we plan on doing it again in the future.

I live in California and I am a WorldMark timeshare owner. I just got back from the Anaheim WorldMark resort this last Friday. I was told by a few of the Wyndham sales people the following. Wyndham/WorldMark partnered with Disney this year. I already know about the RCI exchange and I was told it was not related to RCI. I was told that DVC members would have easier access to our Wyndham/WorldMark resort in Anaheim, California. I was also told that Wyndham/WorldMark timeshare owners would also have easier access to the DVC resorts. I was told I would have to attend a timeshare sales pitch/Owner Education for more detailed information. I am already happy with the amount of WorldMark credits I have today. I declined the invitation. Could the opening of Star Wars this May be the reason for this so called partnership? I can see where 50 DVC Grand California Villas will not be enough to keep up with the demand for the opening of Star Wars in California.

Just the fact that you needed to attend the presentation for more details probably outlines the truth behind what you were told.

Agreed 100% here. If there is any truths to it, they would probably mention you need to buy direct with TravelShare eligibility to use, therefore a timeshare presentation is required, than maybe I believe a tiny, tiny bit.

Otherwise, to me, these front desk / sales people are always stretching the truth to get you to attend, and I always decline.

Great3

We were able to get 2 nights the week before Thanksgiving this year at the 7 month mark. I was on my computer and husband in another at 5 am (8 EST) and only option was 2 br, no 1 br left. We could have done the few nights beyond I believe if we were willing to spend the points, but it jumps to high season on the Friday before Thanksgiving and we need our points for Aulani next spring. Our last experience that weekend in DLR was that late Sat, the whole resort becomes a mad house and Sunday was the busiest I’ve ever experienced at DL.
