I have checked quite a way through the GCH superthread, but it is getting really super!

Wondered if any one had a shot of the mats/sleeping bags. Can't quite get my head around them!

Background - we are going to GCH, with some friends, a family of four. I've recommended the bunk options, but was thinking of other options if they are not available. Any room config suggestions?

Thanks

This thread definitely needs a bump!

We absolutely love GCH, but DS (12) and DD (almost 11) will no longer share a bed, and DS has outgrown the bunk beds. We can't seem to convince them that sleeping on a hotel room floor is okay.

If we could show them a picture, it might not seem quite so icky (to them and to me).

We have 2 teenage sons and always travel with at least one twin size blow up mattress for situations where we can't get the right accommodations. It works great, and they don't have to be so close to the floor!

A good plan, but like the OP I'm finding it weird to recommend sleeping on the floor in a hotel like the GCh!

Fingers crossed some one here has a pic

We have a picture of my dd in her "bed" aka - GC sleeping bag but I have to wait for my dh to help me post it. We went last August and there were 5 in our group. When I made the ressie we told them we were 5 and we needed a room with a daybed. On the morning that we arrived we called to re-confirm. When we got there we were told that apparently having enough bedspace for each person is a "request" and that a sleeping bag is considered to be an adequate replacement for a bed. :scared1: We were stuck that first night. We have been staying at GC since it opened in 2001 and I never knew that when you make the ressie for 5 with a daybed it is only a request. We own DVC at the VGC so now when we stay we know that each person will get to sleep on a bed. I don't think I would ever stay at GC hotel portion again with 5 in our party because no one wants to sleep on the floor. My dd was 14, so not a little kid. Anyway, when my dh has some time I will ask him to post the picture. :thumbsup2

Thanks - would love to see the pic when you have time (soudns like you won't be needing them in the future:thumbsup2 Maybe others have stories about how comfortable they are?

And we come in from overseas, so an air mattress isn't part of our luggage plan unfortunately.

I'm sorry; I don't have a picture, but I can tell you about the sleeping bags.

First, they give you a foam pad to go underneath. The sleeping bag is really nice, the old-fashioned kind with a red-patterned flannel interior. They give you extra blankets and pillows. My girls LOVED the sleeping bags and all 3 opted for those over the bunk beds. My kids don't like bunk beds at all :confused3 but maybe that's because at that time, that's what they slept in at home :lmao:

With the nice foam pad they provide, it really isn't as bad as it sounds! My girls are always disappointed now when we go to a hotel and they "have to" sleep in a bed because sleeping bags aren't provided :rotfl:

Thanks for the positive review. How old were your girls at the time? Do you think it would it be comfortable enough for an adult-sized 12-year-old boy?

My girls were 6, 6, and 9. I *think* it would be fine for your son, but I won't swear to that :upsidedow. It was very comfortable to me but (a) I didn't sleep on it all night, (b) I am used to sleeping in a sleeping bag on an air mattress when we go camping and (c) I'm probably about the size of your son...unless he's tall . Does he ever sleep in a sleeping bag? If so, he will be good. If not, it's hard to say - some people are more bed people than others.

Thanks DizMe. He is currently 5'6" and growing like a weed, so who knows by the time we make our next trip (not before the late fall). DD is our "Minnie Mouse" and would definitely fit, but she is also a real princess, and sleeping on the floor (no matter how cute the sleeping bag) would not fly with her (especially when her brother is stretched out comfy in a queen bed). I am thinking more and more all the time that we are DVC material (2Bed Villa, of course). We just have to shake that money tree a little harder!:)

Oh, I WISH I could get dh to agree to DVC. It would be great for the girls and me but he is not at all supportive of this idea :guilty:. He would like having a money tree

:rolleyes2:rolleyes2 I'm confused.....how come bringing a sleeping bag is not allowed because of "fire safety rules-but if the hotel gives it to you, because of lack of a bed its ok?????:rotfl2:
