GCH Room/View Question

I am booking for February and just noticed that they have added a new view category - "Woods/Garden/Courtyard View" - that is marginally more expensive than a Standard View room. In the past I have booked a standard room and been able to stay in the area right around the main elevators. Can I still get that same area with a standard room, or do I need to book the w/g/c view room? If anyone can tell me what the distinction is exactly, I'd appreciate it!

I think the difference is that "Standard View" used to include the view of the parking lot overlooking the entrance (rooms in the front of the hotel) AND the monorail courtyard. So in the past if you booked a standard room you could ask for the courtyard and get a nice free little "upgrade". Seems they got wise and are now making you pay extra for that.

Thanks, Audrey. I think you are absolutely correct! I spoke with someone at GCH and she said that the standard rooms basically don't guarantee any view. It's pretty much whatever is available (after the view rooms have been assigned to those who paid for them), so it could be anywhere in the hotel. As I understand it, if you book a standard room you pretty much get the bottom of the barrel. So - we could end up getting a room overlooking the front of the hotel (which doesn't bother me - I get used to the valet setting off car alarms every 5 minutes after the first day or so), but could also end up anywhere else, at the hotel's whim. I need to look at the map to confirm, but I was told that there are more Courtyard/Garden/Woods view rooms near the main elevators than there are standard rooms - probably worth the $20 a night to have a better shot at a good location.
