GCH Questions(Sorry)

Do you know what time whitewater snacks open in the AM? He wants to get going with breakfast a bit after 0600.

Jack

I don't remember them being open that early. I think they opened at 7 or 8 am. I remember having to wait for it to open.

Room service in the a.m. or buying some things the night before from WWS & eating them in the a.m. worked out best for us.

I did not think they were open that early. Looks like some mix of room service, food delivered might be the way to go. He is open to any suggestion that will get them going early, but at the same time wants to keep the espenses in a "real" realm.

Thanks to evryone for the advice and photo's. I am zipping all the files and sending the info to him. Spliting the breakfast room service and bringing in food would be my way to go. Will have to see what his thoughts are. Any more ideas, please post.

Jack

Don't forget if your staying at the GCH, you have FULL access to services such as priority meal seating with one phone call from your room. We called day of to shift things around and another time to make reservations and were able to get in. (Perhaps they save some space for guests of the hotel???)

Their concierge desk is tucked back but they are also a great source of any information you may be in need of, and can also get a manager for you if you run into any issues.

BTW, we walked DOWN five floors on the stairwell to the "secret" door next to the La Brea Bakery, at 3:00 AM, due to a fire alarm. With our 7 year old. The only negative we experienced during our stay that year.

Oh! And also, if you're staying at the hotel TELL them when you make all your PS and you will have a lovely itenarary ready for you when you arrive. Same for a tour, if anybody is up for it. (If you have a Disney Visa you save 20% off tours.) Makes one feel very spoiled :).

Same thing happened to us! We had the fire alarm go off in the middle of the night. I was not happy. silly people in the stair wells clogging them up with more than half empty suit cases. Not that there was a huge fire but you never know...I can't believe some people are willing to risk their life over a 20 dollar pair of jeans!!

Anyway...WWS not open that early but room service is decent and portions are not tiny. I would just order the night before and then not have to worry about it in the morning! :)

You could buy the breakfast bagels, yogurt, whatever, from Whitewater the day before and then have them at the ready in the room early in the morning.

One of his sons is a diabetic and has to have non-dairy protein in the AM. Eggs, bacon, etc. So it looks like the room service idea is the way to go for him. Does someone have the planning number handy for the GHC. I booked his stay yesterday thru Costco because they have a package he liked.

Thanks all,

Jack

love the way you think!!! :rotfl:

Why thank you. They say great minds think alike ;).

Wow, I don't remember anyone hauling down luggage. There was a man on the 6th floor that carried his disabled wife down six flights of stairs, though!!!

At some point in time, I read a thread where quite a few peeps had experienced the infamous fire alarm in the night. I guess you can't really ignore it, though, especially since the GCH has had a fire. Maybe they've fixed that issue of fire alarms, though. I think I heard that it had to due with the system being connected to DTD, and anybody who pulled an alarm there triggered it for the resort (think kids/somebody whose perhaps had a wee too much to drink in DTD, etc.)

GCH numbers; the operator ought to be able to get you where you want to go :).

Thanks for the numbers and the recommendations. I sure wish the place was less expensive.

I think La Brea opens about 7a, or at the very least before 8a (in summer time anyway). I left my sleeping husband and went for EE one morning when we were staying at the GCH . It was about 7:30a, they were open and hopping. There were several people that were just getting done eating at some tables when I got in line, so unless they literally inhaled their food it had to have been open for a little bit before I got there. Maybe the opening time for La Brea depends on when the park opens (EE included).

There's also the Compass Bookstore at the other end of DTD. I just called them and the cafe part opens at 7a every day (714-502-9999), so that might be an option too. They had sandwiches (ham, eggs, bacon) and cereal when we ate there for b-fast on day.

We'll be there next month so if I get more good ones or different ones I'll post them. Here's some pics of the hotel and our room when we stayed in 07.

Thanks for the photo's. My DGF always hits the Compass book store, he will have to check that out.
