We just booked our stay at the GCH for 6 nights this June! :goodvibes

We are hoping to spend a lot of time poolside and I'm not finding detailed information about the pool(s), even in the GCH mega post. If anyone can help me out... :) my questions:

Is there drink service and is it only for the cabanas (we do not plan to rent one)?

Is there a wading pool and what is the swim diaper policy for the pools?

Are there dining areas?

Anyone have photos? The disneyland.com site's photos are of up close families or kids sitting on the pool edge...uhhhh how about pictures of the slides, aerial view, etc?! :)

I can help you with some of the questions.thinking back to September last year..though, so someone might be more up to date.

First, yes to swim diapers - they are required. And there is a small wading pool and a little slide.

Drink service is available, but its quicker just to go to white water snacks at he far end of pool complex where you can pick up drinks and food.

No photos though - but hope this helps.

There's a little slide?? When I asked someone at the front desk they said there was a wading pool but no little slide. I don't see one in the picture. I'm going Sunday and I'm also frustrated by the photos for the exact same reasons as the OP.

The nachos from white water snacks are delicious!

Mike has some photo's on the GCH superthread.

I second that! We also found it faster to go inside for our own drinks. There are two slides. The large one around the tree and a small one by itself. You can see them both if you zoom in on Google Earth.

There's a small slide in the same pool as the main slide, off to the side. I posted a link to a dreams unlimited photo on another thread, will see if I can add it later when I'm typing on something other than my phone. =P
In the meantime check out the DU website they have some very nice pix.

FYI, in the past, the lifeguard staff has given a swim diaper at no charge to forgetful families (like me). Also, there's been a change in the policy for using the big slide - kids can now wear a life vest to go down it. Before you used to have to pass a swim test.

Towards the OP's question - there are dining areas. I can recall 2 areas with tables and chairs, one of which is near the wading pool.

Thanks for remembering Jack. Here are some.

Not that the GCH pool is bad. But if you have kids that want to swim and use slides......Boy is the DLH pool going to blow away the GCH's.

We were just there this last weekend. We have stayed at VWL, OKW, BWV, BV, and AKV. I would say that GCV has one of the largest areas for pool play. Now that the other DVC pools have been added I think there are at least three hot tubs. There are also cabanas that can be rented for $180 a day. I know that sounds pricey, but for the Grand I don't think so. That way if you have a large family, you can just hang all day and the servers are more personal to coming over and assisting you.

The chaise lounge chairs are to die for though. They are very thick and comfortable and to me that will always blow away DLH's pool area and I like the two hot tubs.

That is so true. The lounge chairs are great. I could have just laid in the warm sun and took a nap.

DLH will have two hot tubs. Way better selection of water slides and a splash play area.

And who knows what chairs are coming. I would hope that GCH would have nicer chairs, but you never know.

Partial to DLH are ya? :lmao:

I personally like the pools at GC vs. the old D'land stuff. The slides won't sway my opinion in the future. My kids are starting to get older and I don't think that would sway them either. The location of the GC puts it over the top for us. I like not having to walk the extra distance plus I love the feel of the lobby. I have nothing against DLH because I would stay there again in a heartbeat but if I had a choice it definitely would be GCH.

If you had the choice what would you do?

If I was taking kids I would want to take them to the DLH's new pool area. Reasoning has been stated.

I said nothing about the hotel vs hotel.

If you are a grown-up going with just grown ups, the the GCH is the best bet. With kids I say DLH.
