is it easy to taxi to one than the other -- rather than herding on a tour bus with all our new friends on the Magic? Or do you recomment booking excursion with Disney the "Island Tour and Butterfly Farm" which leaves at 8 am and takes 3 hours?

thanks for any opinions!

We took that same tour when we cruised in 2003. We did not like it at all. First it was really boring, not much to see, they actually showed us the new Burger King on the island. It was really disappointing. We didn't go to the butterfly place, and the turtle farm was just okay. Hope this isn't to disappointing for you. Just my opinion of the tour.

cindy - thanks for your honesty! how sad that a new BK ranked as a tourist attraction!

anyone else been to either place?

We went in 2003 to the Turtle Farm and I thought it was very interesting. I know it was heavily damaged last year during the hurricanes so I'm not sure what it's like now. They were in the process of fixing the facility due to the previous hurricane and it was almost complete when the storms hit last year. They lost a lot of turtles previously.

In Grand Cayman..it is very easy to do a two hour island tour on your own..in a taxi van. They take you to turtle farm, hell, etc, let you get our and have plenty of time for looking around. They also show you a few other things on the island. I wouldn't book ahead of time. The taxi dispatch station is at the top of the dock, oceanside, just a bit up on the left. You can't miss it.

We loved the turtle farm, so I hope it is back up and running. You can hold and pet the turtles. They have a great gift shop. The gift shop is also a great place to purchase postcards and stamps, the mailbox is right out front so you don't have to find the post office either. There is of course, the hell post office, but we wanted both postmarks so we mailed twice..lol.
