Hey,
My friend stayed there for 3 nights at New Years and said that it was wonderful...She got it on Priceline. She left there and stayed at Marriot World Center for 3 more nights and said she felt like she had moved to the local Best Western...It was that nice.

My family stayed here last Aug.( Me, my wife, and 2 daughters ,5 and 6) Here are the pros and cons. First the hotel is beautiful. Everything is under an atrium and is divided into three themes...key west,st augustine, and everglades. There are 2 pools an adult pool and a childrens pool with foutains and a small slide built out of an octopus. There is bar service at both pools as well as pool toys to rent. The breakfast buffet is excellent and there are many bars resturants that are all kid friendly. There is also a disney store, a breakfast bagle place, an ice cream parlor and a drug store all inside. The location is great ,5 min to all the theme parks through the back roads that are relatively uncrowded. The rooms are nice with a fridge, cieling fans, and nice conforters. Checkin and out was a breeze and the staff was great. There is also a kids club with a staff to kid ratio of about 1 to 10 that we put our kids in 1 night so we could go to the dueling piano bar. when we picked them up at 10pm they didn't want to go.............Now the con. Everything is expensive. This is first and formost a convention hotel. I think they figure since everyone must be on buisness that everybody expenses it so they jack up the price. Secondly ,since it is under an atrium the noise realy travels. There was a band playing at night at the baot bar until 11 and we could here them quite clearly even with the verandah door shut. This realy didn't bother us much cause our kids are good sleepers and are usually exhasted at night and my wife and i could sit and relax and listen to them with a drink. But if you are light sleepers, ask for an outside view room. My number one complaint is the parking. They automatically add a $10 a day parking fee to your room. If you dont want it you must park at the convention parking lot which means a 10 minute walk just to get in your room. Not easy after a long day in the parks. We got a web deal of $101 a night and I felt this was well worth it. Sort of getting the Grand Floridian for that price. However, I would not pay the $225 or $189 I hear they have been charging lately. For that amount i would stay at the Beach Club or get adjoining rooms at an upscale hotel or a suite at HIFS. All of which we have done in the past. Over all I think its great if you can aford it but for people who may want to streach thier budget i think there are better places to stay. Now if I was on my honeymoon.................TAZ
Yes, I realized we were staying at an upscale resort, but I felt this was gouging. A trip to Disney is expensive but everytime I opened my walet a the Gaylord Palms I spent $50. LOL.....
Woweee! I'm glad my parents got a priceline rate of $83 for this hotel. For their week long stay it will cost an additional $160 in those 2 fees alone! Geez. You're right, the majority of people that stay here would have to be conventioners. That's more like a NYC rate than Orlando. Too bad. Oh well, I'm glad it's as beautiful as you described. This will be their first time to the magical world of Disney Thanks so much for your insight!
More like an onsite Disney rate! Good for you Judy and Dee's DS, I understand this is a real class act. I drove by in when we were there in January and all we could say was WOW!
cnmiranda: Your parents were very lucky to get this on Priceline!
Have to say that I am fortunate to be able to use the facilities without the expense. I didn't realise they charged $ 10 a day to park the car ! Scandalous !
I like the Gaylord Palms (apart form the ridiculous name ) and I particularly like the Old Hickory Steakhouse. It's not cheap but the food is excellent and the service pretty decent. Only ever had one issue there and that was resolved quickly.
I agree that noise could be a problem because of the atrium but the overall feel is a hotel with plenty of room and lots of class. The roll in swimming pool is excellent for any handicapped guests and the hotels has numerous places to explore.
The duelling piano bar is OK but watch out for the wine waiters who try it on now and again. My wife asked for a glass of chardonnay and received the most expensive one on the menu. Not to impressed with that so adjusted the tip accordingly
Other than that, GP is in a good location and appears to be very popular despite its price range...so much so that a vets conference last weekend overflowed the car park and guests ended up parking at LBV Factory Stores to be shipped in !
