Gaylord Palms?????

Has anyone stayed at this hotel and what if any suggestions could you give? We live near Nashville and have been to the Opryland Hotel. It's very beautiful at Christmas time and we just wanted to know if they decorate at GP like they do at the Opryland Hotel here in Tennessee? What are the room catagories and do they have a Concierge level there? Thanks for any tips or suggestions!! Chip.

Gaylord Palms is beautiful. The rooms were very nice and the complex is huge.

That said, the restaurants in the facility were very, very expensive for what it was. Our banquet ran out of food and some of the group had to eat quite a bit later. The breakfast buffet was outrageously expensive (I think it was in the $10-$15 range) When I checked out, someone's bar tab ended up on my room's bill. I had to show all my receipts to prove that I paid for things as I went and did not charge anything to my room. They told attendees at the conference that we did not need a car and I would guess that half of the attendees ended up renting a car to go to restaurants offsite to eat.

They are owned by the same corporation that owns Opryland hotel. I loved the convention that I went to at Opryland hotel but at Opryland they have that huge shopping complex next door that if you got bored at the Hotel you could go over to eat, drink or do whatever. Things maybe better now, the hotel was brand spanking new when I went to this conference.

Chip, Chip, Chip dearest buddy. It a miracle to me you came to the boards in the nix of time to help me out. Can you please tell me all about the Oprland Gaylord Palms? We are considering it for this chirtsmas holiday. We are in georgia and have 2yo triplets and 10yo so I would need two rooms or some sort of a suite. Can you tell me what's near it and suggest a room type for us. And if you know of any discounted rates, like ent. rate or AAA rate there. Right now we are pondering a cabin in gatlinburg for a few days but my husband is not thrilled with a four night minium on the cabins and we really like a nice hotel with things to do in walking distance. It makes it easy with the girls just to walk and not pack back in the car. Any suggestions for your area? How many days do you think we'd need there to do the grand ole orpy and such? Do you have any suggestions for the gatlinburg area how many days do see and do some things? Thanks

I stayed at the GP last month for a week at the great rate of $109 a night. We are a family of 4 with a 5 and 6 year old. The hotel is very nice and is just like the one in Nashville except for a different theme. One side has an everglades theme, one side has a St.Augustine theme and one side has a Key WEst theme. We stayed in the Key West side and room was nicely appointed with plush pillows, large bath and bacony that overlooks the indoor lake with floating boat that doubles as bar. This is a nice area and my kids enjoyed the band that played beach style songs. However they played untill 11 at night so this could be a problem if you have little babies or want your kids to get to sleep early. There is also a nice piano bar that is geared twords adults. I didnt go into the steak place. Prices are expensive but is is an upscale convention hotel so we expected it. There are two pools, one is for adults only and the kids one is decent sized with a zero entry end and a octopus sculture with a slide built in. It also has fountains that splash it. Both pools are serviced by a bar. One bad thing about the pool is a life size sculpture of a whale in a sand area that my kids kept wanting to climb, It is very slippery and high and saw 2 kids fall off and hurt themselves. This thing was like a kid magnet, everytime I looked away my kids were climbing it.....Anyway another nice thing about this place was the kids club. I think it was affiliated with kindercare and was resonably priced and my kids liked the 3 hours they spent there while wife and I had some adult time. The staff to kid ratio was great 1 staff member for each 4 kids. The location in relation to Disney is great, 5 minutes and your everywhere in the "world". On the downside there is very limited self parking and valet is $10 an night. Also it is very crowded and is more geared to adults and teens. We enjoyed our stay and would compare it to the GF, very nice but, whats the word I'm looking for? Conservative? It's not a place where little kids can run wild. I would recomend it to older couples, honeymooners or people with older kids. If your company is having a convention there ,jump at the chance. However, although my family and I totaly enjoyed our stay the best kid friendly hotels in Orlando are still the Beach Club, Holiday Inn family Suites, and the Hard Rock.....
